Hello everyone! Please allow me to draw your attention to our website launch announcement at https://prototypebay.com/ !
What is PrototypeBay? When PrototypeBay will be launched it will be a platform to showcase your best 3D printed projects, get inspired by others and maybe learn from each other. You will be able to organize your photos about your projects in albums. You will be able to create collections of your albums from the same topic. You can share any of them on social media. If someone discovers you through your works or projects, that person will be able to see all of your work in one place. They will even be able to like your albums or start following you. Or you could Like and Follow others who you admire.
Why would you use it? Maybe you would like to show your 3D printing project album without your holiday albums next to it. Maybe Your photos on social media sink way too fast and unnoticed on a busy day. Maybe it’s hard to browse and find what you are looking for in a group album. Maybe… There are many reasons why we think PrototypeBay will be a great place. But what we really hope for is that a creative community would gather around it to share their passion.
And this is just the first stop on our roadmap.
Stay tuned for more information! Sign up for our newsletter to not miss anything! 翻譯年糕

Dan Andersson
2019-11-01 19:18:38

If you print someone elses model, thats not showing your skills. With resin printing it is quite easy to get a good print.

Use the anycubic test cube. It is free and is a good example 8f what the printer can do.

Joey Rexer
2019-11-01 19:19:36

I think benchy for fdm. resin does not have a comparable print.

Csaba Szilágyi
2019-11-01 19:21:05

I consider setting up the printer properly as a skill. I think it does not matter if you print someone elses model if the result is a blob of resin.

Minghua Kao
2019-11-01 19:26:41

Not for showing off but for testing; since I usually do small stuff like miniatures and jewelry I'm using these for resin and setting tests:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3495269
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3473793
This one may get added in the future for straight line testing:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3470476

High level of detail, surfaces in multiple angles and a number of points of failure if not correctly supported, small so printing time is not too high. And lovely figures in themselves.

Csaba Szilágyi
2019-11-01 19:48:38

I am thinking more like an object like this to see the accuracy and stuff:

Sen Kun

There's no showing off skills printing an *.stl. More like showing off the resin and how well your printer is dialed in.

Maybe yeah, show off exposure savvy, orientation and support skills. But if your resin is mediocre or your printer is off specs, you'd still get a dud print.

Sen Kun
2019-11-01 19:50:59

https://ameralabs.com/blog/town-calibration-part/

This is a good one. And ameralabs did a good write up that'll help you understand resin printing better to go with it.

Csaba Szilágyi
2019-11-01 19:52:06

Well that's what I meant. Only technical side, what can you achieve.

Israel Perez
2019-11-01 19:52:22

Literally this is what benchy is for.. and there are so many measurements to confirm accuracy. Its not just a boat its a torture test and benchmark hence the name benchy. Just as useful for resin but there are test for resin that also test resolution

Csaba Szilágyi
2019-11-01 19:53:22

This is what I am looking for.

Minghua Kao
2019-11-01 19:53:38

I modify these myself since different design have their own challenges. This is a set I made for some jewelry for instance.

Sen Kun
2019-11-01 19:53:49

I aim to please.

Minghua Kao
2019-11-01 19:58:50

By the way, if you want a challenge, try this one: https://grabcad.com/library/ring_a-1 It's hard making this one without the spaces between plates filling up. I've to put a bit more time in to see if this can be done.

Seems like a nightmare :)

Lance Fulfer

Csaba Szilágyi I had a perfect print literally an hour after pulling my printer out of the box... so no, there isn’t any skill involved in setting up the printer. It’s ridiculously easy compared to say an fdm printer

Stephen Carr
2019-11-01 20:13:10

Csaba Szilágyi being adequate is not a skill, and does not deserve an award.

Csaba Szilágyi
2019-11-01 20:16:24

ah great, so there is no room for user error. Phew, I did not know that.

Lance Fulfer
2019-11-01 20:50:40

Csaba Szilágyi of course there is. But let’s not confuse “not screwing it up” with an actual skill....

Csaba Szilágyi
2019-11-01 20:54:53

Alright. Then what is the case when the print did not fail, but it's deformed because of lack of support or wrong exposure times, etc. ?
Is it not a skill what you develop by gaining experience?
Maybe I am using the wrong word, but then how should I call it then? :)

Dan Andersson
2019-11-01 21:01:02

I would call it experience and learning from your mistakes. Shure it is a skill to be able to get a perfect print out every time. But the fact is that everybody can do it if they want to learn. And everybody can do it even faster if they allow a couple of failed prints. And many people can get a perfect print by mistake.

The hard part of 3D printing is creating the model. It takes a lot of time to learn cad or sculpt software. You also need imagination and an eye for the outcome you want.

Printing someone elses model is like driving your car to a garage and let someone else do the job. Then you can tell your friends "I fixed my car today" because you drove it to the shop and payed. The hardcore version is that you find out what is wrong, acquire the parts and tools and fix your car with your own hands.

Jon Quirós
2019-11-01 21:22:06

Dan Andersson Mmm, not entirely- for someone who already knows CAD the difficult part is zoning in on settings, proper supports, etc... You know, actually “printing.” But you’re right b/c those are things a printer is meant to do! Really though, we’d have to define what the term “skills” means. Do we mean “get a clean print,” “from idea to reality” or something else ?

Csaba Szilágyi
2019-11-01 21:27:22

Dan Andersson "Diving skills" You know. Cmon. Do we really have dissect this? :D
Explaining that you have to get to the garage somewhow with your car? You can end up in the ditch, etc.
At least someone get it what I am talking about. :)

Ric Watts
2019-11-01 21:56:02

Elitist claptrap - if you are not a 3D modeler then you have no skill. Two different things entirely. One is creative and one is technical. I know people who do design work who have never owned a printer or would know how to use one.

Again that’s just elitist look at me ego.

Norbert Kupeczki
2019-11-01 21:56:10

My own design, printed on a Photon for a tabletop tactical game called Infinity. The miniature next to the print is for scale and itis 32 mm high

Norbert Kupeczki

Objective markers, the bases are 25mm in diameter, the height of the print is about 22mm, also my own design

Hey guys, Today I release the files for the Assault Mech. If you are up to a challenge then it is for you, because it is not a beginner set. :)
It is a 16cm tall (1/72 scale) static model with the optional closed or open missile pods. Default main body parts are hollowed for resin print, but you will find filled version as well for FDM printing.
Price: 25 USD via Paypal . (make sure 25 USD arrives) PM me for details if you are interested.
The video shows an unprocessed FDM print with a simple grey prime coat (no sanding, no filling) so this is the lowest quality what you can get! :) Printing in resin with Anycubic will be way better! Unpainted FDM print's video shows the stability of the print. (Color version is a render for paint job idea.) Cheers! 翻譯年糕

Hey, I would like to share this model with you guys, what I made during the 3D printing competition at Promised Land in 2018.

Free STLs here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2ahtq9n9fxl4tzh/CIWS.zip?dl=0
I've also recorded a time-lapse video of the 5 hours Fusion 360 speed modelling process and later the modifications and preparations in PreForm before the final print. It was printed on a Form2 (with minor layer shifting) This video meant to be free, but at the time when I uploaded, there was no way to publish something with 0 USD price (with this file size). On Gumroad you can watch it for free using the RENT feature, just enter 0 USD. However if you decide to spend some money on this time-lapse video I will really appreciate it.

UPDATE: STLs are ready, test prints are in progress and adjusments will be done if needed.

Hey everyone!

So I am around halfway done converting my old in-game mech model to a 3D printer friendly version (Few parts on the screenshot). I have limited access to a Form2 printer, but to speed things up with testing the pieces I am checking possibilities to buy a cheaper LCD 3D printer for myself. But before such an investment I was wondering if anyone would be interested at all to buy STL files when it's ready and/or interested in a video tutorial how to convert low poly game assets to subdivided, 3D printable surfaces? (Paint Concept and clay render is NOT the 3D printed version! Yet. :) )
