I would like to fasten a few large printed parts together. The joint needs to be nearly as strong as the printed part and needs to be air tight. I am curious what you all have tried (and if it worked or not)

Operating in complete ignorance my current plan is to design the parts to have a very thin gap. The gap would allow a thin layer of uncured liquid resin to be held between the parts. I am hoping that I can then cure the whole assembly and use the liquid-filled-gap to weld the parts together. (shown in image)

My first concern is that the color of light that makes it through the parts will not be correct to cure the liquid resin. I am currently using Sierra Tech Blu but could switch to Sierra Tech Clear it needed.

I would like to make some mechanical parts. What resins are reasonably strong? I would like to print parts that I used to make out of CPVC and ABS.

I overfilled my printer just a bit today. Is this a case of "Go forth and sin no more" or do I need to take the build plate apart?

After searching earlier posts I see people like Nick Williams filling a lot higher. I have seen saw another post that said they didn't have to take the ball screw apart for going to the height I did. There seem to be a lot of people who just always play it safe and year it down for even the slightest overfill...

This is my first time trying out the Photonsters exposure test some of you have recommended. If I am reading it correctly row six looks best. Can you confirm? If not what in the other row(s) should stand out to me as better and why?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have a question about Elegoo Grey resin: is it supposed to have a... for lack of better word... sticky surface even after cleaning and curing? The print quality is nice but the surface doesn't quite feel solid. It doesn't mark. So it is solid but doesn't feel quite solid. Is this normal?

Should I re-level the build -plate after using Kapton tape to seal the edges of the LCD? If so, do I need consider where I place the paper when getting the spacing right? Before taping I covered the whole screen with the paper. Now the spacing will be odd because of the tape on the edges, tape overlapping in the corners, etc. Do I need to avoid the corners where the tape is doubled up?

As always, thanks for all of your tips!

Have any of you tried printing this on the photon? I am guessing it has to be split into multiple parts using something like mesh mixer. What worked, or didn't, for you?

[Edit] I do not have an FDM printer. So the Photon is my only option for printing parts. I already have a nice 4" duct venting my shop outside (complete with electric fan). So 4" drier host makes a lot of sense for me

I am a new owner who believes an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. My printer seems to be working well but I wonder what I should do to minimize problems moving forward. What easy steps can I do to improve the reliability of the machine or minimize the damage/clean-up when things go badly?

For example: I have seen here that some of you sealed the edge around the LCD with Kapton tape to prevent resin from damaging the LCD if/when the FEP breaks.

What has worked for you - or in hindsight do you wish you had done before things went sideways for you?

(picture is so people will see this post LOL)
