Need some advice. Which orientation would yield the best looking model, upright or flat? I used auto supports just for illustration, I will be placing my own supports. For the "STL?" people: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3731860 翻譯年糕

Dan Kennedy
2020-03-28 04:11:50

put it at a 15 to 45 degree angle

Josh Deane
2020-03-28 04:19:10

Upright at an angle. You don’t want supports on both sides.

Terry Hobbs
2020-03-28 04:20:55

Like this, for example?

Sean O'Hayer
2020-03-28 04:47:48

Terry Hobbs more straight up and down, slightly angled from there.

Dieter Bürgy
2020-03-28 05:16:05

This much support?

Terry Hobbs
2020-03-28 05:17:33

No, I just used auto supports to illustrate the idea. I will be placing my own when the time comes.

Milton Farfán Salazar
2020-03-28 08:10:34

Flat.....or 45° never right

Richard Humble
2020-03-28 23:56:32

I'd print it straight up. Minimise the supports

原文網址 Steve Landers
2020-03-28 03:23:43

Ok, I have my first successful prints. I'm very happy with the results. The detail is quite good when you consider that these are 1-2 inches in length!

However, this green resin is pretty brittle. I broke one trying to remove the supports. Are some of the other types a little less brittle?

David Arnold
2020-03-28 03:26:10

Is that some nebulon b and lancer frigates

Steve Landers
2020-03-28 03:26:30

Yes

Douglas Parkinson
2020-03-28 03:26:38

I can't name any offhand, but I believe so. I'm having the same problem with the brittle nature, with Warhammer and Battletech miniatures

David Arnold
2020-03-28 03:26:43

Try soaking in hot water after cleaning but before curing then remove the supports and then cure

Steve Landers
2020-03-28 03:28:08

If you do that, can you handle them without gloves, or do you need gloves until they are cured?

Kyle McPherson
2020-03-28 03:31:22

Steve Landers I would recommend using gloves until cured

David Arnold
2020-03-28 03:31:40

Steve Landers I still wear gloves until they are fully cured to be safe

David Arnold
2020-03-28 03:33:47

And chitubox I think has easier to remove supports

Noah Belveal
2020-03-28 03:39:52

Consider mixing in some flex resin.

Derek Fontes
2020-03-28 03:41:39

Elegoo abs-like has yielded great results for me. I print 28mm miniatures and the elegoo stuff has a good amount of flex to it.

Scott Pavlich
2020-03-28 04:01:29

Steve Landers You can handle them without gloves: the part has already been “cured” by your printer...the “post-cure” as it’s properly called, enhances final properties of the resin, like hardness and tensile strength.

Stephen Hill
2020-03-28 04:03:35

Syria Blu is a good choice. you can mix it with some other resins too to make them more durable.

Steve Landers
2020-03-28 04:23:28

Thanks for all of the help! I am having a lot of fun with this thing!

Aaron Strome
2020-03-28 06:08:18

if you want reasonably priced resin with flexible properties. try Hero resin... https://www.3dresinsolutions.com/

Peter Csaki
2020-03-28 06:15:30

Any resin is less brittle than anycubic green.

Paul Mabbott
2020-03-28 06:19:58

I've swapped to Elgoo Grey. Similar/better price, better durability, and way less fumes.

Harley Swanson
2020-03-28 06:23:06

I've been wondering why everyone goes with green resin? Is it easir to paint? Cheaper? Or does it just come with some printers?

Kevin J. Zhang
2020-03-28 06:36:36

I would remove all the support and sand it before curing with UV

John E Clark
2020-03-28 06:46:41

Douglas Parkinson with anycubic gray, i mix 15% flex100 to make it less brittle.

Kurt Brown
2020-03-28 06:50:17

Stephen Hill that’s what is use and it’s been great.

Kurt Brown
2020-03-28 06:51:34

How small did you print that? The resolution looks really low.

Ðam's Voué
2020-03-28 07:16:36

i use elegoo abs like translusent resin, and it's not brittle at all (i can even bend the arms of my minis, when they fall they don't break) plus it's gorgeous if i want to keep it no painted ;)

Quentin Roa
2020-03-28 07:44:30

Harley Swanson it came with my printer

Nikola Pijanac
2020-03-28 10:19:54

I can recommend buying monocure flex 100, a liter will last you almost forever, you mix it with the existing resin you have. You don't use it neat so to speak. I have tried it with delicate prints that you know will break or snap if handled in the wron g way and it is fantastic. You can have a look here to see what its about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_orRlIUU9s and purchase from here https://monocure3d.com.au/ the product is Australian made so for the Aussies out there buy local. His prices on his resin are more than reasonable. I buy whenever he has specials going which are all the time. I buy and use his clear and white, generally the clear and tint them if I need another colour which is rare as I undercoat and paint nearly all of my models.

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-28 11:56:03

Harley Swanson I love it, very easy to get good settings and details. Used half a bottle of clear and couldnt get a good print

Chris Thompson
2020-03-29 02:50:08

Highly reccomend elegoo ABS like resin. my grey prints can be dropped on laminate flooring and bounce no problem - not on purpose mind you :(

Antonio Regidor
2020-03-29 02:58:49

Nikola Pijanac What are your settings, please? 15 s layer?

Nikola Pijanac
2020-03-29 05:28:34

60 bottom . 9 secs the rest using clear resin.

Nikola Pijanac
2020-03-29 09:42:39

Nikola Pijanac
2020-03-29 09:43:03

next

Nikola Pijanac
2020-03-29 09:43:20

one more to go

Nikola Pijanac
2020-03-29 09:44:36

Last one, this has worked well for me, you will need to adjust as required, even though our machines are generally the same, everything always needs a little tweaking. You need to take into consideration the resin you are using etc etc.

Steve Landers
2020-03-29 13:51:00

They are between 1 and 2 inches in length. Good details for the size.

Kurt Brown
2020-03-29 22:51:13

Steve Landers ok. That makes sense at that size. I have gotten good results with a model at about 3.5” and up. The bottom is a sculpted model at about 1/2256 scale.

Steve Landers
2020-03-30 01:22:00

I am using them for somewhat mass fleets with a slightly sliding scale. The Star Destroyers are 1:10000, and my smaller stuff is about 1:5000. If you don't scale a bit Corellian Corvettes are tiny and fighters are dots...

Caio Donini
2020-03-30 01:23:32

the detail can be much better

Question about resin prints. . . what kind of heat resistance do resin prints have? Could you for instance use them to print a fan vent for your FDM printer (the one I have now is PETG.

Simon Wilson
2020-03-28 02:59:13

Lots of people have done this in this group, and when I refine my design (and finish my resin heater) I'm going to do it too!

Ryan Moore
2020-03-28 03:19:17

I did this but the Anycubic gray resin I used was brittle and broke in a few places. I used it anyway and it held up to the heat just fine

2020-03-28 02:41:55

Hi all. I have a print that is going to take about 7 hours. The first time it broke off of the supports and failed. Is there a way to check to see if it’s actually printing about mid way through?

翻譯年糕

Rory Kostman
2020-03-28 02:43:54

press the pause button? It will lift the part up. You may or may not incur some minor layer shifting in the print due to the pause. I've had pretty good luck with my Photon and PAUSE (unlike my Ender 3, which PAUSE might as well be labelled "ruin this print?")

Jeremy Wilson
2020-03-28 02:45:31

Rory Kostman thank you! I was worried about layer shift so that’s why I haven’t tried it. Hate seeing a bunch of broken supports stuck to the plate after all that time overnight.

Simon Wilson
2020-03-28 02:53:42

Have the supports 20mm long, and pause it while they are still printing in the first fifteen minutes, then after that you can see it anyway. You could always set the lifting distance higher (and the lifting speed to make up for it) if you want to get a peek sooner

Jacob Hale
2020-03-28 02:59:58

Just open it and check....Seriously, it will be fine. I do it all the time.

Jeremy Wilson
2020-03-28 03:01:18

Jacob Hale I opened it but it’s sitting in the vat below where I can see. Do you mean hit pause first and open it up?

Stuart Johnson
2020-03-28 06:30:48

Such is the resin way. Us FDMrs, we know within 2 layers if its going to go horribly...but resin? Shes a temptress.

Richard Tyler Jr
2020-03-28 07:55:18

Stuart Johnson yes, she is a fickle goddess but oh so satisfying.

Fred Bey
2020-03-28 08:45:28

You can pause it, and it will raise up enough to see. But you run the risk of getting a layer line where you paused it. Up to you if it's worth it.

Jeremy Wilson
2020-03-28 08:47:46

Thanks for the helpful posts guys! It came out great.

Matthew Gladin
2020-03-28 02:10:33

Is the build plate securely in place? That was my issue.

Kris Wainwright
2020-03-28 02:14:26

Matthew Gladin yea I checked that as well. Even took it all apart cleaned it up, put a slight bit of lube on the ball, reassembled and re-leveled

Thomas Harrell
2020-03-28 02:16:56

Did you add resin while it was running?

Kris Wainwright
2020-03-28 02:18:40

Xi-Sheng Luo ya know I watched that same video and do that and it seemed to help out on other prints but it seems like this one in particular continues to shift

Kris Wainwright
2020-03-28 02:19:32

Noah Jefferson
2020-03-28 02:23:13

Do you have drain holes near the base to prevent suction? At the shift point, it looks like the holes in the resin would be smaller, and potentially increasing suction force.

Kris Wainwright
2020-03-28 02:24:36

Noah Jefferson I haven’t modified the file at all. I’m pretty sure it’s all solid

Noah Jefferson
2020-03-28 02:25:23

Kris Wainwright if you didn’t hollow it, then it probably is not suction then

Alexander Bayerdorffer
2020-03-28 02:32:55

Try hollow with 40% inlay grid and drain holes

Kris Wainwright
2020-03-28 03:23:34

Alexander Bayerdorffer I’ll see what happens

罗西晟
2020-03-28 04:10:43

Kris Wainwright Lube on the ball... euh, that makes it move easier, doesn't it?
When I dis-assembled mine, I took an 800grit sanding paper to the ball, so that the surface is rough and the screw has an easier job on holding on to the ball so the plate doesn't move at all.

Francois Lozach
2020-03-28 18:55:24

Needs to be hollowed and holed like all models;)

Eduardo Vide
2020-03-29 02:33:26

I see that the model has been printed flat to the build plate. As the section is so large in the ground part before the houses, there is some shift due to suction forces. Try to print it at an angle like 10 or 20 degrees
