Does anyone have a link to the vat drain attachment for the Wash and Cure? I know I've seen it floating around but now that I'm looking for it, I can't find it.

I have 4.2.17 firmware is it worth updating

And can I go with v5.0.0.2

Aaron Strome

if it isn't broke don't fix it.

Jake Walker
2020-03-22 12:46:28

Aaron Strome that's what she said...

Bob Deblier
2020-03-22 15:00:28

Absolutely not.

Bob Deblier
2020-03-22 15:01:29

Unfortunately 4.2.17 is broke - you'll run into the frame shearing bug sooner or later. 4.2.18 is what you should be using.

Garry Spear
2020-03-22 23:19:32

Might be a dumb question but how do you check your firmware?

Scaled down to fit the photon zero build plate. Poor little guy didn't make it.

2020-03-22 11:52:40

I promise it can be done...but I only went with 1 base layer and I was SUPER careful on removal. The back legs don’t move those I threw a little resin on them and solidified them

Do it diagonally

Jonathan Basseri
2020-03-22 14:24:10

This was diagonal but still flat on the build plate. I am thinking to try it diagonally in 3D space with added supports... when I get around to it. (:

Rob Robertson
2020-03-22 17:25:15

Yeah is doable! Diagonally I found it was large enough. And then wash it real well and keep it moving when curing so nothing can fuse together!

Denlee Paddy Rhodes is that the same as a confirming coat?

Denlee Paddy Rhodes

Jonathan Basseri not sure it's basically an acrylic gloss but with a slight flex when dried

This may be a dumb question but... Since IPA is impossible to find right now....Has anyone tried ammonia free Windex in an ultrasonic bath to clean prints? It does a great job on the vat so..

翻譯年糕

Andrew Steele
2020-03-22 11:37:34

The question is, is it a solvent for resin. If not then it's not worth it.

Bob Deblier
2020-03-22 14:55:36

Post-IPA I clean all my prints with demineralized water + Windex (equivalent) in an ultrasonic cleaner.

2020-03-22 10:39:32

10 days? Really? Those are some hardcore painting skills! Maybe you can do a tutorial or simething I printed a spitfire and took me 3 days to finish it

William Tatum
2020-03-22 10:45:48

Israel HV nah I'm just ADHD as fuck and have had more down time than usual. I hyper focus like a mofo and just machine out shit.

Honestly before today I hadn't ever painted a mini other than. 20+ years ago and that was with a can of flat black spray paint.

I did work at a Michaels for six years as an inventory manager so I know how the stuff works mechanically but had never used any of it.

I watched a couple of YouTube videos from Games Workshop and just tried to do like they did.

Tony Shadman
2020-03-22 10:59:00

Addicting isn’t it?

William Tatum
2020-03-22 11:01:31

Tony Shadman like crack, only better.

Jonathan Basseri
2020-03-22 11:47:12

You are excellent at painting those. I've seen some people mirror a model when they are printing more than one of the same thing.

William Tatum
2020-03-22 11:50:27

Jonathan Basseri I did that for some of mine. The chaos demons are mirrors. But the human Mercs aren't just a trio of the same model.

William Tatum
2020-03-22 11:51:01

Thanks! I am enjoying the painting more than i thought I would. It's a new creative outlet for me.

I am new as well and finding it difficult to find all the types of D&D mobs

William Tatum
2020-03-22 11:55:26

Brandon Bennett the dwarves mostly came from Artist Guild on Patreon. The big Mech and big Demon in the back came from Titan Forge on Patreon. The large angel and undead cleric came from thingiverse. The rest were part of the welcome packs from either Titan Forge or Artist Guild. I HIGHLY recommend either.

William Tatum

Shane Thomas I highly recommend watching the videos from 3DPrintingPro on YouTube. That guy knows what he's doing. I just try to do like him and I've got about 85% success rates.

William Tatum
2020-03-22 23:40:29

On those fine lines. I've found that u can get like a qtip or something finer and dab a wee bit of liquid resin into the crack and then hit it with a UV flashlight works wonders at removing them and being easy to sand or paint over.

William Tatum
2020-03-22 23:42:28

In terms of the bit at the base though, I have similar issues when I print flat on the build plate. Even when perfectly leveled about 1/3rd of my prints placed flat on the build plate have that effect. Raising them up makes more work, but ? don't get that effect so long as supports don't fail.

Not sure of that makes sense.

Ryan Shelvik
2020-03-22 23:42:54

Jonathan Basseri great stuff for the quantity and free. But there's a lot of great free stuff on myminifactory too

I was asked to print this head, which fit in the slicer (barely), but the chin got cut off while printing. There are also some odd lines around the temple and jaw. Because of the size, I could only print it vertical, otherwise it wouldn't fit at all. Does anyone know why I have those two issues? I placed a ton of heavy supports because of the weight but it stuck to the build plate nicely....I was really hopeful it would print properly. Any help is much appreciated.

Did you pause it at all? I've noticed when I pause my prints, they sometimes develop lines like that.

Obviously not the issue if they're not parallel with the layers, though.

Ian Henry
2020-03-22 10:02:54

Kyle Telechan this!

the lines could also be where more resin was added

Louis Siciliano
2020-03-22 10:04:22

I always get lines when i pause. And even if you have heavy supports if not enough or in the right place you can get flex at points that make lines

Michael Del Valle
2020-03-22 10:12:54

I got this too but fixed it by adjusting the orientation

Jennifer Tallman
2020-03-22 10:13:34

I only pause it when it's at the support level, before it starts printing the main part, just to make sure everything is sticking to the build plate. I didn't add resin.

Jennifer Tallman
2020-03-22 10:14:37

I would love to tilt this back but it won't fit. I love this printer but wish I went with a bigger build plate. I'm keeping my eye open for good deals.

Michael Del Valle
2020-03-22 10:16:42

Jennifer Tallman watch a few of this guy's videos. He changed the way I do things haha.
https://youtu.be/8xolVj0izVo

Jennifer Tallman
2020-03-22 10:18:33

Oh I love his videos. I've watched just about every one. If I had a larger build plate, I would orientate it differently for sure.. but it barely fits and only upright. I may just have found the limitations of the Photon, but if there is a way to make this work, then I'd like to figure it out.

Michael Del Valle
2020-03-22 10:20:11

Can you put up a screenshot of the orientation?

Drew Delano
2020-03-22 10:23:08

"adjusting the orientation" ? ? ? ? I got it

Jason Pedersen
2020-03-22 10:23:47

Louis Siciliano that's exactly what my thought was. Either a pause or a resin top off.

Jennifer Tallman
2020-03-22 10:28:20

If I tilt or move this in any direction, it'll be out of the bounding box

Luiz Junior
2020-03-22 11:20:46

Louis Siciliano that’s because resin in vat is warmer. The resin on the bottle is colder and when you mix them, the expand of cured resin isn’t the same as previous layer.

Louis Siciliano
2020-03-22 11:22:41

Thanks Luiz Junior . Good to know. I dont add to my prints. Havent had too. But i keep my bottle inside the heated enclosure next to my printer anyway.

Insufficient internal supports cause deformation.

Richard Humble
2020-03-22 14:37:11

I suspect the lower line around the chin is suction. You need a vent hole at the lowest point of any pocket.

Richard Günter Dölz
2020-03-22 16:49:33

Are you be able to share the project with its supports, I won't be able to help, but there will be those with more experience who can look at your supports and make suggestions

Jennifer Tallman
2020-03-22 19:49:05

Richard Günter Dölz I didn't save the supported file unfortunately. I had lots of internal heavy supports to ensure the printing of the heavy top.... but maybe it's too much material over a flat bottom surface. I can't change anything, since this is someone else's design.

Jennifer Tallman
2020-03-23 10:48:06

I decided to use the Anycubic slicer instead of Chitubox and I found a way it'll fit and print with improved quality. It's a tight fit but it worked.
