Anycubic Photon Printer Owners 造訪社團 » Instructions

Hi folks!

I did a little programming over the weekend and now I would like to share the results with you.

What it is about

I have extended the awesome Photon File Validator Tool from Photonsters by the import of Prusa SL1 file format, so that the files generated by PrusaSlicer can be read in directly, without detour via ChituBox or other slicers that support .photon file format. Additionally I have implemented a Print Host, which pretends to be a Prusa SL1 printer to PrusaSlicer, so that the file can be sent to the Photon File Validator with one click, without a roundtrip via file system.

Motivation

The PrusaSlicer is - thanks to its excellent algorithms for auto-alignment and auto-support - very popular among Anycubic Photon users. Unfortunately, the currently common pipeline for print preparation is very cumbersome. Normally it works something like this:

1. Open the model in the MeshMixer or similar, hollow it out, put drainage holes in it and save it again.
2. Open the model in the PrusaSlicer, align it, generate support and save it again.
3. Open the model in ChituBox, adjust print parameters, slice and save.
4. Open model in Photon File Validator, correct errors and save.
5. Print

Even once, it's already time consuming. But if it turns out that there are still unsupported areas (and usually you will find this in the Photon File Validator, that's what the tool is for), you have to start from step 2 again. The whole open/save orgy over dozens of programs is very time consuming and just not fun. I wanted to change that.

Thanks to the new features in PrusaSlicer 2.2+ an external program for scooping out and drilling is no longer necessary, the slicer can do that by itself now. And thanks to the SL1 import into Photon File Validator you can do without proprietary slicers as an intermediate step, so it reduces the pipeline as follows

1. Open the model in PrusaSlicer, prepare it completely and transfer it to the Photon File Validator with a click on "Send to Printer".
2. Correct any errors in the Photon File Validator and save the .photon file.
3. Print

If there are some unsupported areas, simply switch to the PrusaSlicer window, fix the problem and click on "Send" again. This will reduce the time needed significantly.

Warning / Disclaimer

The software is still beta, and may contain smaller (and possibly larger) bugs. I do not take any warranty for functionality, possible damage to the printer etc. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Installation

Currently no installers are provided. You need an installed Java-Runtime in version 11 or later to run the program. Download the JAR file and start the program with java -jar PhotonFileValidator.jar from the command line.

The complete source code (only necessary for developers) can be downloaded from my GitHub repository.

Usage

1. Start Photon File Validator with java -jar PhotonFileValidator.jar from the command line

2. The main window opens.

3. In the main window, click on Settings The setup dialog opens.

4. Make sure that "Print Host Settings / Current State" shows "Print Host is Running". If a problem occurs, change the port and restart the Print Host.

5. Under "Print Host Settings / Output directory", select the directory where the generated .photon files will be saved.

6. Click the button "Show PrusaSlicer settings" and follow the instructions to set up PrusaSlicer.

Basically you only need to adjust two entries in the default Prusa SL1 printer profile:

1. Set gamma correction to zero. This disables the anti-aliasing in the PrusaSlicer, as the anti-aliasing settings cannot be applied at the moment. However, this is not a limitation, as the built-in calculation in the Photon File Validator provides much finer control over the anti-aliasing settings. The import of gamma correction values is the next item on my TODO list.

2 (Optional) In the "Print Host upload" section, set the "Hostname, IP or URL" field to "http://localhost:8080" (or the port number you set). This setting allows you to send the file to Photon File Validator with one click after slicing, without having to save and reopen it.

If you're updating the Validator, are you taking requests?

Because the ability to flick up and down between layers while in the zoom-in mode would be hella handy.

Many thanks to all for the positive feedback. I've been busy printing for a couple of days now and so far every print has been successful.

As soon as I have implemented the gamma correction and cleaned up the code, I will make a pull request so that the changes are included in the main branch.

Sol Aris Any idea what would cause this, or more importantly how to fix this?

Sol Aris

Robert Jeppesen You need a newer Java version. The program runs from version 11, the error message says that you have Java 8 installed.

Hey ... I think you must do a releveling ... This works for me very well ...

1. Start a Calibration
2. Take a normal piece of paper
3. Get down till the paper stuck lightly
4. Align the top with bottom an tighten up the top piece
5. Look for the paper, if it still lightly stuck get more down till the paper stuck strong ...
6. If the paper stuck strong end calibration (save)

This works 4 me any time ... if your prints stucks really hard after printjob is done ... You got to close ...

Play around ... and still use IPA to clean all the stuff before printing !

I’m getting ready for my first test print. I followed their instructions to open the test file but all i get is the LCDViewer screen showing the layers. How can I open the file on the slicer in order to manipulate the model?

Last advices before I open a ticket.
I got a new photon and wasnt able to print anything with it. It does the weirdest of thing.

It runs any files without problem. Which is good...as long as I dont have resin in the vat.

If there is resin in the vat, it will do layer one, raise the bed, place the bed in position to start layer 2.
Then reboot (shutdown, restart) to homepage, and forgot it ever started printing. Power supply stay ON the whole time.

I tryed 3 USB stick, 2 are 3.0, one is 2.0, 3 files containing the test cube, loaded 3 times from anycubic website. Got only one file on each drive. Already upgraded to firmware 4.2.18
This error doesnt seem very common, and the FAQ has limited instructions regarding this problem. I'm at a lost here ?

Hi fellow printers, I hope this is an acceptable place to ask, I need some advice on what to expect when dealing with the Anycubic hardware support.

Today my barely used Photon made a "pzzzt" sound and then acrid smoke billowed out from the body while the display screen flickered. I switched it off immediately and then lodged a ticket with Anycubic. I suspect it's related to the Z axis as it's movement has was sluggish, it kind of accelerated then decelerated, rather than the responsive and steady movement of other machines I've seen.

I've just received a response from support instructing me to refer to an instructional video, open it up and investigate what burnt/caused the burning. Also to attach a different adapter and try and power it on.

The printer is less than a year old and has only been used a handful of times. Am I at risk of voiding my 12 month warranty by following their instructions to open it up and tinker/investigate things?

Any advice is much appreciated! Thank you.

Please Help!

Looked through the known issues and FAQ and couldn't find an answer. Posted my problem previously here on on reddit without much luck, but I'm hoping someone with experience catches this post.

I have a Photon Upgraded. I successfully got the test cube to print on my 3rd try. However, the instructions seemed to be for the original photon, as it was referring to .photon files, but my printer was only seeing .pws files on the stick. Also, I couldn't seem to get Photon Workshop or ChituBox to give me .pws files, only .photon, but I read there was a firmware upgrade to be able to use the .photon format.

I downloaded the firmware upgrade, and put the 2 .bin files on a USB stick. Put that in the machine and "printed" the main one. Everything SEEMED ok. The system reset and the information screen indicated the new firmware editions, and neither file would now show from the print screen.

Here's where the problem happened. After this, when I plug in a USB stick with a file of either print format (.photon, .pws), and go to the print menu, it freezes up. I can't select a file to print or back out.

The menus work OK when there is no USB device detected, but I've tried 3 different sticks, including the one included with the machine, and can't get it to work. I can see the files on two (which leads to a freeze up), but one doesn't even seem to be recognized (and that's the usb stick with a recognizable brand).

I put this out there on a sub thread, but I thought I'd ask again to see what people think. I have an Anycubic Photon Resin printer -- NOT the S -- but it has the 'S' motherboard. So do I follow printing instructions for the S or for the base model?

I joined this group a few weeks ago and I have been reading and studying a lot mostly due to a torn achilles tendon. I am grateful for the all the posts and information in this group.
I am getting ready to start my first print using Anycubic Grey Resin. I have attached photos of my supports in chitubox, my settings for the printer and for the resin. Would you review and let me know if you think I have a high chance of success. I have seen a number of failed prints and I would like to avoid that as much as possible. I also turned on anti-aliasing and set it to level 4. My firmware and everything is all updated and ready to go as far as i know. I checked level and did everything per the instructions on youtube and other forums as well.
Should i tilt my project 45 degrees or so? Are my light supports good enough or should i add some heavy supports Is there any reason not to use the anti aliasing Slicing is only necessary for large files that don't fit the print area. Is this correct?
Thanks for your time and consideration. 翻譯年糕
