Hello! Since there's shortage of IPA right now, I just want to share my DIY IPA filtering system. My goal is to remove the small resin particles and it works well so far. I'll use the recycled IPA for the first stage cleaning of my prints. How about you? What do you do to your used IPA?

Lucky me! Working with clear resin(with a little residual grey)! XD excuse the dirty cloth, it was the closest dark cloth lying around to be able to see the print on.

Am I right in thinking that 7 is the best column? The video tutorial I found said you should double that number for your exposure time, but I've seen people on here saying to add 3 seconds. What do I do?

翻譯年糕

Stefan Giudici
2020-03-18 09:46:08

You double it. It's displaying 2x each number there when printing the test card, so if 7 looks best it's because it was exposed for 14 seconds.

Mika Gruszka
2020-03-18 09:47:55

Stefan Giudici oh wow. So I need to use 14 seconds for my clear resin?

Stefan Giudici
2020-03-18 09:50:37

I didn't look at your test card, you need to use 2x whatever the best looking number is tho. Good clear resins aren't very fast. Fast clear resins yellow a lot more

Mika Gruszka
2020-03-18 09:53:47

Ok. I'll try 14 seconds and do some quick prints (by quick I mean a few hours. Lol)

Scott Pavlich
2020-03-18 10:13:30

I’ve never really found this test matches up with what I end up running for clear. Monocure clear runs beautifully at 9s for a .04 layer yet the exposure test told me 14s...I’d strongly recommend running a calibration model and see where your settings look best with that: here the 12s is already showing overexposed whereas the 9 is crisp and clear...and Anycubic yellows fast compared to the Monocure

Mika Gruszka
2020-03-18 10:19:26

Scott Pavlich can I have a link to this calibration model? I'm using Elgoo translucent

Mika Gruszka
2020-03-18 10:24:41

Thank you

Scott Pavlich
2020-03-18 10:27:36

Mika Gruszka It takes under 45min to run at .04, chose an exposure (I only do like 3 bottom layers, just enough so it sticks) then keep dropping your exposure watching closely the features...you’ll know you gone too low it that bridge area above the word Monocure shows delamination like this one

Mika Gruszka
2020-03-18 10:29:27

So I should reprint this with lower exposure each time?

Scott Pavlich
2020-03-18 10:41:38

Mika Gruszka Yep. But the nice thing is once you’ve done it unless you change resins you don’t have to do it again. I’ve kinda learned where to start and only have to print 1 or 2. And the only thing you want to change is the regular exposure...unless what you are testing is bed adhesion

I poured green and white resin. I didn't mix it and the result was a Jade/Marble like look to the print.

我倒了綠色和白色樹脂. 我沒有混合, 結果是一顆翡翠/大理石, 看起來像列印.

Zortrax, Poland. Their Raydent Crown & Bridge Resin comes out at $399.00 PER LITRE!!!

3Dresyns, Spain.They charge 200 Euros for a Litre: https://www.3dresyns.com/....../dental-3dresyn-od......

There's a company in Germany called DETAX but I can't get a price off them without signing up.

There's a company in the USA, Stratasys, but I think they only make materials for PolyJet machines . . .

Francois Lozach
2020-03-18 00:51:41

Well the thought I have about water washable resin... when you wash you piece on a water container... you got a lot of resin I cured in it... ipa evaporate if you want to cleanup the container... but water not ... or at least not so fast... then chemic als in water washable resin cannot be disposed in regular waste ... so what is the advantage? You cannot rincé your piece under water flow directly going into the sink thus you still need a container and you still need to remove most of the resin before letting evaporate the water...

Ettore Maria Bar
2020-03-18 01:10:19

I formulated my first water washable resin almost 7 years ago. That time my last of 3 sons was a toddler. I was thinking "God, this is a brilliant idea, no need to use alchool, users can wash parts directly into sink!". Then I took a look to him, at the formulation and I decided not to produce that resin.

Jim Nelson

Read SDS of water washable resins to find out yourself.

Bob Snyder
2020-03-18 01:50:45

Or just use DNA. Works great.

Mark Wardle
2020-03-18 01:58:07

i would rather not print then use water washable resins. it never cleans you still need to use ipa on them to get them 100% clean. people tend to think water washable = safe. others will wash in there sinks under taps. other people will just throw the dirty water down the sink. not saying you and others in the group will. just saying that peeps will. hate the stuff. hence why the anycubic bio resin is no longer water washable due to the environmental impact that could happen with misuse.

Second time my photon s is printing a block of resin. Changed the USB already. Before i start a print i dry print (without vat and build plate) and it is still happening. Lost a lot of resin :( Any suggestions?

Angelus Mew Ellis
2020-03-17 22:26:33

that also happens to be the shape you see if you do a test exposure, so i would assume something to do with that, but i couldent say what would cause this, take the build plate off, tank out and do a print and see whats showing on teh screen as it "prints"

Kevin Duong
2020-03-17 22:30:03

Angelus Mew Ellis yeah this i what i always do before a real print. Dry printing without the vat and plate. The lcd then show s the right one, after i cancel the print, put in the vat and plate, press on print again and this is comming out... Yeah looks like the test exposure, but i never touch it so why would it print it? So strange...

Peter Csaki
2020-03-17 22:31:10

2020-03-17 22:32:25

Kevin Duong thats really weird

Kevin Duong
2020-03-17 22:33:32

Peter Csaki okay, its very frustrating because i never know if the printer is doing well or not..

Joe Eckert
2020-03-17 22:41:57

Kevin Duong there's a layer view as it prints. If you see the layer view is a big rectangle like this then you'd be best served stopping the print right then rather than exposing the whole vat of resin.

Balint Beni
2020-03-17 22:42:14

Update firmware, happened to me, if you are on the last és firmware just update again and all back to normal

same for me also, On print goes this bad. After flashing no more trouble.

Alexander Bayerdorffer Like i said, i dry run all the time before printing still this is happening. I try update then firmware. Any other suggestions?

Kevin Duong
2020-03-17 23:06:55

Sylvain Revol okay i try update the firmware

Gonzalo Avilez Iglecias
2020-03-18 00:09:21

connect USB , only after to turn on the printer. if you do before, motherboard has problems loading external ports

Pete Kastner
2020-03-18 00:15:17

make sure to power off the printer and power it back on before the print.

Pete Kastner
2020-03-18 00:15:36

pause it after 5min to make sure its printing correctly.

Kirk Sturgulewski
2020-03-18 01:00:32

Kevin Duong so if you run the test how long do you set it for? Default is 200s. If you hit pause by accident then hit print again you are just resuming that test print for the remainder of the 200s which makes sense seeing as to how this is one solid block. The other question is when you hit print does the plate drop into the vat? With out code to tell the plate to raise to certain height that test screen would not print anything that thick. It is almost like you are running the lcd test with the vat in-place.

Fellow Photon users. I have currently been using anycubic gray resin a d got my setting dialed in pretty good. I am switching to the Anycubic plant based PURPLE resin very soon for reasons. Anyone that uses the plant based resin, could you tell me what settings i.e. exposure times and so on, that you personally use with the plant based resin to get great results? Pictures with plant based resin prints would be nice as well. Thanks in advance!

Hi I ran the community exposure test. From github and it failed conpleatly with only the base layer sticking the the build plate. All the other layers came out well but stayed on the fep. I was testing for the 25micro file (resin-test-25u.B150.6-60.photon) has anyone else tried the high resolution files and had successfully tests? I don't think that build plate leveling is the problem as this is my first failed print. Any suggestions?

Wes Mischke
2020-03-17 22:47:55

Did you put it into test mode?

Jeffrey Dawson
2020-03-17 22:57:42

Wes Mischke no, is that a setting on the printer its self? Isn't it just a print file what does test mode do.

Wes Mischke
2020-03-17 22:58:14

So you’ll have to get the test and print mode files from GitHub

Wes Mischke
2020-03-17 22:59:28

Load the test and print mode files into usb like a sliced file. Then “print” the test mode file, then print your resin exposure test then “print” print mode to return your printer to stock settings.

Daniel Weatherhead I've got mine in me room, using the Anycubic Basic Grey, without all that gubbins and I've not noted it to be particularly smelly or noxious but I AM a smoker so that may be a factor.

I found the nastiest bit of it is the cleaning a fter the print. I'm using Meth's for the Basic Clean followed by the IPA and that lot stinks to high heaven.

Also, if your garage is too cold the Resin may not be as 'responsive' or as 'fluid' as is required. (Couldn't think of better words) Might be worth investing in a heater for that area.

Daniel Weatherhead

Neal Conway Thanks a lot. Very useful.

Keith Yinger
2020-03-17 23:05:29

The most basic thing you'll need is isopropyl alcohol or something to clean your prints off when they're done. As far as not enough Sunshine it doesn't really take very much. I set my prints on the windowsill and even on a cloudy day they still cure. T hat will at least get you started printing. Eventually you'll probably want to get more rubber gloves and paint filters. But basically with just some alcohol to clean your prints off when you're done you can get started printing. UV curing stations, fume extraction and all of that stuff are kind of optional and whatever you prefer on that. I live in a tiny home so the best spot for my printer was behind the toilet on a Shelf. I don't hardly notice any smell from it at all unless I'm sitting right there next to it watching it.
