Hi, I got my photon zero two days ago and cant get the slicing software to open at all, it just wont go past the initialising screen which only stays up for a few seconds then nothing happens. Obviously with the Zero having a different extension to other printers its going to be really hard to get it to work without the software. I have downloaded the file from the Anycubic site and the same thing happens, not sure if my pc is to powerful (windows 10, 8gb, 1gb graphics card), but I am at a lose as I can only print the test file that came with the machine.
I have the latest version of Cura but that doesnt seem to have a setting for the Photon Zero and likewise have downloaded Z Suite.
can anyone help at all
Ryan Walmsley 2020-03-29 03:39:19
Have you tried ChiChuBox?
Marc Farrimond 2020-03-29 03:40:05
Yes but there is no settings for the Zero Ryan sadly
Leonard Grubbs 2020-03-29 04:08:44
Just go into Chitubox setting and click on add printer. Go to other and select default 1. Type in your resolution and the bed size and rename the profile to a name of your choice.
Evan Boone 2020-03-30 13:45:40
lol you think 8gb and a 1gb gpu is TOO powerful?! nah man something is likely wrong within your system. do you do yearly os resets? i find not doing so will usually result in issue like this. also i recomend chitubox and prusa slicer over the included software. anycubic's software is just a rip-off version of chitubox with less functionality. even if you dont see settings for your printer, you can enter then manually easily.

Does anyone have any experience with this exposure test? What’s your opinion of the result? (I know this isn’t the preferred test, but I’ve given up on reading the other one, every time someone posts one I try to read it and EVERYONE picks very different settings than I saw ? .) This one is exposed with 0.05 layer height, with 115s on the bottoms layers and 18s normal. The circled area are thin risen areas I accidentally crunched while cleaning. Resin is AnyCubic Gray. Thanks for any insights you can offer!

It'd look good if a hammer and sickle were in the star haha
David Collinson 2020-03-29 00:12:29
It looks heavily overexposed to me
Lee Furry 2020-03-29 00:17:10
That was my thought as well, this one was exposed at 80s bottom and 8s normal, and seemed horrible underexposed. I guess I’ll split the difference
Anders Scot Hudson 2020-03-29 00:18:58
100% I don’t know who dude was that put 18 seconds on “the sheet” but 7-8 seconds is plenty

Thats the whole purpose of a calibration test, find the sweet spot!

Something I thought I would share with members here. If you want a cheap way to not finger your models while painting and they are tiny, buy some 3d glue dots and stick one on top a testers paint bottle. then stick your model to that. I never paint the bottoms of my bases because sometimes in humidity the paint on the bottom sticks to stuff they are sitting on. After your paint fully drys just twist the model and keep twisting and evetually the glue dot releases leaving no residue on ur model. The leftover gluedot on the testers is then trashed and a new one installed.

Miniature and figure painters have been doing this for years with blu tack, which is reusable and can also be employed as am masking material. Unless you're mounting a lot at once though a GW mini clamp handle is only £5 or there are FDM 3D printable versions.
Josh Berkley 2020-03-26 11:29:13
I like this idea. I use some loctite blue putty and a toothpick sometimes and hold the toothpick in my fingers. Same principle
Josh Berkley 2020-03-26 11:29:37
Che Fielding this is what I do
Hoghead Hoffer 2020-03-26 11:31:01
Che Fielding I have considered buying one. does it hold irregular shapes or just circles
Hoghead Hoffer 2020-03-26 11:31:12
Josh Berkley cool idea as well
Josh Berkley 2020-03-26 11:34:58
I have a rotating lazy Susan type stand that I absolutely love. Works especially well for larger things like terrain and structures but it has clips and holes that I use to stabilize the small figures on the toothpicks and get a 360 angle at them while not dealing with any trembling in the hands (though I believe any mini figure painter or model builder could perform surgery with ease). It's made by Tamiya
Che Fielding 2020-03-26 11:38:42
They hold irregular shapes in the sense of GW oval bases. The clamps are stepped so they won't hold anything that's a crazy shape but as long as the base is on the same level and not too weird yes. If you have an FDM printer though there are a few good files.
Falcon Tom 2020-03-26 11:48:26
Seems really wasteful.
Joe Kirkus 2020-03-26 12:07:12
I use popsicle craft sticks and a bit of superglue. Though that’s just from years of miniature wargaming prior to printing things myself.
Justin Scott Larson 2020-03-26 12:15:10
I just use blu tack
Tim Parks 2020-03-26 12:45:40
Do you paint your minis with Testors?
Hoghead Hoffer 2020-03-26 12:51:53
Falcon Tom opinion
Hoghead Hoffer 2020-03-26 12:52:56
Tim Parks no, I use the bottle to hold them. I have huge hands. I wear a size 18 ring.. tiny things are not held well with my hands
Tim Parks 2020-03-26 13:15:09
Hoghead Hoffer Ya. I use craft paint bottles and do the same thing with sticky tack when I’m painting more then one. I’ve got a GW mini holder for single model painting though, just because they are really comfortable to hold and paint. I was just curious with you because I haven’t heard of someone using testors for painting minis in a long time.
Adam Cartmer 2020-03-26 19:52:02
Finger your models? *touch the resin Yeh, that sounds better
Ricardo Sebastian Ibacache Guerr 2020-03-26 22:56:09
That mini looks overexposed
Hoghead Hoffer 2020-03-26 23:08:03
Ricardo Sebastian Ibacache Guerra not the point of the post either..
Jonathan Alvarado 2020-03-26 23:34:42
nah I think he meant finger. theres some juicy models out there ofcourse
Mark Rhodes 2020-03-27 01:29:29
At first with all the virus craziness goin on i thought this was some weird ass toilet paper that sticks to the finger tip or something.
Austin Cordova 2020-03-27 01:35:46
I've been using the same dirty blue tac similarly for months. Works great.
Hoghead Hoffer 2020-03-27 02:01:53
Austin Cordova that naughty tac has alot of people hooked lol
Falcon Tom 2020-03-27 03:17:55
Hoghead Hoffer Fact, when compared to that blue putty... or anything reusable.
Hoghead Hoffer 2020-03-27 05:12:53
Falcon Tom its an opinion
Falcon Tom 2020-03-27 05:59:50
In the same way 2>1 is an opinion...
Adam Cartmer 2020-03-27 06:35:06
Jonathan Alvarado haha ?
Hoghead Hoffer 2020-03-27 08:53:22
Falcon Tom maybe I don’t like using something covered in germs? like reusable putty. Both of us have opinions. Ours are different.
Shane McAlister 2020-03-28 00:44:30
give me a break, its not wasteful. Hes using it to suit his needs, you use what suits your needs... hes not branding you wasteful... who are you? Greta Thunberg?

Ok. I'm having a serious issue here. I printed my initial test print on the photonS however every other print I have attempted I can't get bed adhesion. I've looked at a lot of FAQs and have tried them all. Wtf is the issue. The last print had 10s exposure time, bed exposure at 100s, and several different models. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Relevel? What kind of resin and what does your supported STL look like?
Josh Tollison 2020-03-23 01:38:06
What all have you tried so far?
Juaco Amado 2020-03-23 01:48:13
Have you changed the FEP lately? It might be not tight enough
Robert Clauff 2020-03-23 01:55:02
When I level I get the paper so that it can't be barely moved. Is that too far perhaps?
Robin MacNeil 2020-03-23 04:00:59
Robert Clauff I used a video that really helped, which said, you should be able to pull it out with a bit of force, but if you try to push it back it bends. So yours sounds a tiny bit too tight.
Robert Clauff 2020-03-23 04:06:07
Robin MacNeil I'll give it another run at #5 and hopefully I get something.
Robin MacNeil 2020-03-23 04:07:59
Robert Clauff Check your resin against this chart to help find the best exposure too: https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j......
Daniel Green 2020-03-23 12:13:24
keep upping your bottom exposure. Mine were sticking until i went to something like 130 or 150

Just a first impression of the photon zero and the people telling the quality isn't good
Im absolutly satisfied with the results for that price and this is only the test file I printed with a random color.

Body Jo 2020-03-19 02:34:37
First print looks good, but others, you will see... Quality isnt here..
Yannik Tillmann 2020-03-19 02:38:18
Body Jo but why should the test print be better than following? You already tested a lot and will know what to say about but first impression looks nice. Display gettin weaker?
Richard Webb 2020-03-19 02:39:01
interesting how theyve gone away from the ball levelling system to the four screw idea
Body Jo 2020-03-19 02:40:42
Yannik Tillmann I don't know it's weird, I tested 2 prints, anti aliasing * 4 and * 16 and it's the same ... I'm trying to show you a photo

Elegoo mars
Yannik Tillmann 2020-03-19 02:43:31
Richard Webb I don't like it but seems to work... I think the phrozen sonic mini has the same system (have it but not u nboxed it)
Body Jo 2020-03-19 02:43:40
Photon zero...
Yannik Tillmann 2020-03-19 02:45:27
OK, that looks shitty ? But from my logic... When the test print is perfect there has to be a special setting to achieve?! I mean, I have no idea about the settings they used on the exposure time test or if it has been really done in photon slicer
Body Jo 2020-03-19 02:49:54
Yannik Tillmann ? ? ? Yeah really dont know, i sliced with photon, chitubox doesnt have yet photon zero printer.. But it's really ugly... I really dont know why........ ?
Yannik Tillmann 2020-03-19 02:58:29
Body Jo but the exposure test showed the same good results? I think they set the minimal layer height on it when lookin on the sphere?!?
Vinicius Silva 2020-03-19 03:02:48
put that next to a photon classic print and then you can compare. also try the ameralabs town

Dominik Kaźmierczak 2020-03-19 04:39:35
oh, Z Lift Speed was 1.5 mm/s when I printed it...
Jack Waterfall 2020-03-19 04:44:00
I got 2 of them for £80 each and they print great for the price.
Body Jo 2020-03-19 04:44:48
Yannik Tillmann Really strange ? Dominik got a nice print...
Ryan Phillips 2020-03-19 05:05:25
Rigo Arevalo I have made something similar, but can’t get the levelling right using the fixture. How do you go about the z=0 set up?
Yannik Tillmann 2020-03-19 05:14:55
Dominik Kaźmierczak I will just test. But chitubox isn't possible, right??
Dominik Kaźmierczak 2020-03-19 05:34:08
I added supports in chitubox, then saved as stl and open in Photon Workshop to slice it.
John Chrapkowski 2020-03-19 06:35:35
Body Jo my prints are great. I think you might need to adjust settings
Rigo Arevalo 2020-03-19 06:42:03
Skip forward to the leveling in this video and you will see. The screws may be arranged differently but it’s the same concept https://youtu.be/8VIyN325u78
Daniel J Regan 2020-03-19 07:14:47
For the price they're okay. But for minis the resolution is just too low. From a distance they look okay.
Daniel J Regan 2020-03-19 07:15:12
But as you get closer, you begin to see the limitations of the lower res screen.
Daniel J Regan 2020-03-19 07:16:02
The problem becomes more apparent after you spray a layer of primer.
Daniel J Regan 2020-03-19 07:18:18
Making the minis sub par.
Yannik Tillmann 2020-03-19 12:36:19
Vinicius Silva that testprint result came out greater than any ameratown I printed until now ?
Vinicius Silva 2020-03-19 17:30:20
that is probably saying something about the printer
Dominik Kaźmierczak 2020-03-19 19:17:14
Daniel J Regan looks odd with these layers... is this mini available on thingiverse? I would try to print it :)
Daniel J Regan 2020-03-19 19:18:05
Unfortunately not. It's a hero forge mini.
Nicolas Tsagarides 2020-03-19 19:19:27
Daniel J Regan it looks printed sideways
Daniel J Regan 2020-03-19 19:26:42

So, how do these ones work? The platform Prints every leyer at a time controlling the different exposures without moving the build plate?
John Driggers 2020-03-18 12:55:46
Yes - just like the "old" firmware patch version, except this one is built into the running firmware! You get base + 8 seconds for each of the 8 objects. I had to hack together an STL based on the original photon files which are too large. I didn't want to scale so we could compare printer to printer.

So I've run into a bit of a problem. I guess there was too much suction/adhesion between the FEP and the LCD screen while I tried to level using the flint reed method, but it caused the lcd screen to detach from base of the printer. I removed the vat and checked the screen, the cable is undamaged and running a UV test I still see light coming out correctly. However the glue or whatever is used to hold it in place has been compromised and now the screen is loose, is there a way I can reattach it without buying a new one? I briefly thought about using superglue or something, but then thought it'd be better to ask more experienced people.
Edit: added photos

So now that I owned resin printers for 18 months now I have some info for you all. After 1000 hrs on the Photon S screen replacement and one going at 2000 hrs and still going. What I did when they came in was I looked at the whole machine all sides and such. And tried an experiment. There is a large fan on the bottom of these machines as well as Egeloo mars and others. They all have feet that raise the unit up about 1 inch at most. So I decided to raise one Mars and then One Photon I cut a hole below the unit into my stand/platform where the fan/unit would be above. This created better air flow and I have found that machine runs less hot and the lcd lasted longer up to 2x as much. So I would say Rasie Your Machines off the platform you have it on. See photos below on my test units. I have 8 Photons and 4 Mars machines and s400s and Phenom and Transform machines here as well. Good luck and Happy Printing. Michael LR3D
