Anycubic Photon Printer Owners 造訪社團 » FDM

SOLVED!

Hey guys! I'm new to the resin printing world after having my FDM for quite some time now.

I am experiencing a problem with some custom Heroforge miniatures I wanted to print for our D&D group. I use ChiTuBox, but I put it in the Photon slicer anyways: same problem. 3/4 no faces.

The only program it displays correctly in is the default windows 3D printing software.

Soooo...should I worry or am I fine printing just like that?

(btw printed all of them from the same files on my FDM earlier, wasn't happy with print quality but technically everything worked fine)

Hi guys !
Here since a long time, watching and learning everything I can on SLA/SLP printing, (I'm a FDM printer as well)
I would like to buy a Photon, but I don't know if I must choose an S or not ? What could be the reasons ?
I mostly need a SLA printer to make earmoulds after scanning an earshapes.
There is actually the possibility until the next 5 days to buy the Photon with additional Resin and FEP for only 275 USD vs 400+ for the Photon S...
Thank you for the advice !!!

My apologies if this has been asked before. I’m not even sure the best way to ask this in order to search for existing answers.

I print round the clock on my FDM printers. Sometimes this leaves an object on the built plate for a while if a job finishes while I’m sleeping or at work.

Since resin printing is a multi-step process, I was wondering, are there any steps that are better or worse to be sitting around?

1. On the build plate, post print.
2. In the alcohol bath
3. In the water rinse
4. Under the UV lamp

The middle two steps I’m not *too* concerned with since they’re relatively short. But if I leave a print on the plate for a few hours or under the UV lamp am I likely to end up with a mess or an overexposed print?

Thanks for your time!

Undercoated my first printed miniature last night.
Lots of little areas with room for improvement: Damage to small details from oversized support contacts, support contacts that I missed or under-sanded during cleanup, a couple areas where supports intersected or fused to the model.
I am still blown away by the quality of this piece. Thinking back to the first FDM-printed minis I saw just a few years back, this is simply light-years ahead.
Thank you for all of your help, Photonsters!

Can you do multiple colors in a single print by swapping out the resin vat like you would swap filament in an FDM printer?

So my brother says "Hey, Max (my nephew, who is autistic) has this crane he adores. Uses the hook like a wrecking ball to knock down Lego's and such. Could you make an actual wrecking ball?

Feckin' A right, I can.

But in order to scale it to the crane, it's a little too wide for the build plate. So I cut it in half. (My FDM printers are all printing in various states of less than optimal right now, so that's not the solution I need.)

Wondering... best way to glue the halves together? I do that with FDM prints all the time. Not sure of the best methods and products for resin. (Elegoo grey)

Use epoxy? CA glue? Resin + UV?

Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Totally at wits end with my Photon S tonight having wasted at least 30 hours trying to sort it out now, and no further forward.

Tech support in China sent me a new mainboard and I installed that this afternoon. STILL can't print anything (except the unaltered sample 'PHOTONS' lattice box shape). Had a handful of encouraging successful prints in the first few days using Anycubic green and then Elegoo grey but now the best I can get is a sort of very thin ghost shape of the print, stuck to the FEP, not the build plate!

Not been able to print anything for a couple of weeks while waiting for the repl mainboard and that seems to have been a total waste of time. What's really puzzling me is the machine fails to read sliced files, (even most of the ones I printed successfully in the first few days I had it) it just freezes when I press print ('>') and I have to switch off and on again. When files are reopened in Photon-Workshop there is no main image there except the settings and slice images.

AND secondly the few files it will print won't build properly in the vat Have I actually got two problems here, something wrong with the slicing software AND something wrong with the printer screen? Is there a series of tests I can go through logically to pin down what's wrong? Or is the whole thing a dud that needs sending back to Amazon? It's a bit expensive to just chuck it in a skip but that's about where I am with it (and've been 3D FDM printing for nearly 10 years so clearly a total failure with this technology)...

So i have been wondering compared to FDM printing where you basically have a good guess on if your material will be enough or not (and if not you usually have a failsafe) how do you know with the photon if a particular print will finish with the amount of resin you poured into your vat?

I am wondering because i just spent about an hour perfecting the support placement (what a pain in the ass this is compared to FDM jeeez) for a model i want to try to print and after slicing it and running it through the photon validator tool it gives an estimate of ~10 hours. Thats quite long. And then it occured to me that based on the instructions you should only fill the vat to around the beveled edge which i assume would not cover the amount of resin the printer would use in those 10 hours time.

So the question remains: How do you know how much resin you need for a print and if its a long print where you won't be constantly near the printer how do you avoid running out of resin mid print?
