Any ideas on what this shift is? Printed one right before that was perfect then this happened...

Formlabs are showing this impressive resin tough 2000. Beside siraya blu, any other resins for lcd printers that can compete for technical printing?

Wonder if Formlabs will be selling this in bottles or just their proprietary cartridges.

Roye Nrl
2020-03-31 00:29:34

in any case its no use for lcd printer.

Charlie Howe
2020-03-31 00:36:02

Roye Nrl why's that? Is it because they use they SLS tech? That's what it's called, right? ?

Roye Nrl
2020-03-31 00:38:15

Charlie Howe their machine use lasers, they are much more powerful and need less sensitive materials, LCD would not have enough power to harden their resin.

Phrozen TR250LV is pretty awesome stuff

Richard Shapiro

Phrozen nylon-like resin is very similar to Siraya BLU. Good stuff.

Marco Rivera
2020-03-31 01:46:29

Formlabs tough resin is made for laser. If you try it on LCD you will need crazy cure times like 60 sec for each layer and I dont mean base layers.

Oh folks I am at a complete loss. Nearly every other print the printer does this weird thing. I updated firmware with elegoo, sometimes it works sometimes the file does this... I’ve had some files where it does this, I re download the file to the flash drive and the next time it works perfectly. I’ve tried different flash drives with no luck. Any ideas?!

Hi,
so my photon prints have those weird lines. Does someone know what causes them?

I hope your problem is not the same as mine. I had two lines similar to what you have. Allways on the same layer - same height. It tourns out, it was metal particle on the rail. I had cleaned both rails but the problem did not go away since the particle had made a small dent in the rail. I had to order new rails... still waiting for them.

Might be... Or something on the stepper screw?

resin is stable enough that it can sit in the tray for a while..er. weeks, in a completely dark place, cant it?.. no light.

You just have to make sure you stir it up before you use it again

Ken Schmitt
2020-03-30 21:23:26

i was wondering about that, maybe stur it with a brush or something.

Yeah it's fine

Chris Rees
2020-03-30 21:26:30

I kept mine in the vat for a year. A quick stir and it was good to go

Rose Stumpwater
2020-03-30 21:28:55

Just press home a bunch and use the plate moving to mix it. Don't have to get anything resiny that isn't already covered in it that way. :)

Sonny Green
2020-03-30 21:29:50

Yeah, I keep mine loaded up. Usually swish it around a little with the spatula before printing if it's been sitting for a while.

Sean Smith
2020-03-30 21:30:52

Make sure you keep the door closed if you are letting it sit so no dust or random particles get into it.

Oh!! One thing to keep in mind if you are letting it sit there is that the resin is usually warm while the machine is running because of the LCD screen. So when it sits there for a while it tends to be a little colder. So if you are going to let it sit for a while I would definitely check the temperature before you start a print.

Ken Schmitt
2020-03-30 21:32:03

climate control isnt a concern.

Sean Smith
2020-03-30 21:37:50

Ken Schmitt Still. Better safe than sorry.

Ambient temp is still significaltly lower than how hot the LCD gets.

At the very least you should empty the vat back into the bottle and shake it regardless.

Nicolas A. Winton
2020-03-30 21:39:51

Mine sat for a couple months between uses. Just stir it thoroughly before your next use, and you will be golden. Also, I would recommend covering your vat/machine to prevent UV light from leaving in

Richard Shapiro
2020-03-30 23:33:25

No light = no problem.

Ken Schmitt
2020-03-30 23:36:39

my printer spot, no light:

Bruce Piggott
2020-03-31 01:04:38

I have two photons fitted with a printed top cover and the resin is fine after many weeks. There is a filament cover on thingiverse.

Jim Carswell
2020-03-31 02:21:35

Bruce There's a cover file right here in the files section (probably same one?)

Anders Scot Hudson
2020-03-31 02:54:08

the difference between no light and "some" light is quite a bit, if it's in my garage with no light other than LED task lights when I'm in there, I have had it go weeks, in my hobby room with some sunlight coming through the shades, through the UV filters on the case, I get a skim on the top in 2-3 days.

Bruce Piggott
2020-03-31 15:33:02

Jim Carswell thanks for that. Not sure of where the files are?

Ok guys so I'm guessing this has been asked but I cant find the answer. Soooo.....

Why is my print doing this. I've leveled the bed, changed the fep, shook my resin, printing in my warm house. Using anycube grey, at layer 0.05 It was printing fine before and it's weird...

Only thought, the model isnt hollow and next thing I'm trying is hollowing it.

Any thought please

Dave Dickey

That happens with big thick objects. Hollowing will help that.

Dyllon Baldock

Solid block, internal expansion from curing
Snap crackle pop,
There’s ya problem

I’d suggest hollowing it

James March

Dyllon Baldock thanks man. I'll give it a blast.

Dyllon Baldock
2020-03-30 20:49:05

James the other option is depending how good you are at splicing etc is cut it down the middle curing then glue and stuff back together

Dave Dickey
2020-03-30 20:49:16

no problem, I had the same problem with a few chunky models. now I hollow almost everything. Saves a ton of resin also.

Dave Dickey
2020-03-30 20:50:12

make sure you put drain holes

James March
2020-03-30 20:51:26

Dyllon Baldock , I'll be able to fix the model so it's not wasted, but just dont want them to keep splitting lol. Cheers

James March

Dave Dickey I've hollowed big stuff, handy thought this would be too big. But thanks

Yessik Ziiq
2020-03-31 15:47:04

I'm super happy to see some higher exposure on here. So many people think that the less exposure you use the better the detail, but it's actually both under and over exposure losses detail and in my opinion under exposure is worst.

Fulton Baylon
2020-03-31 17:13:12

how come it is so nice with just few supps

Anders Jens Ramm
2020-03-31 17:33:13

Fulton Baylon because it has the correct angle, to create as few islands as possible ?

Anders Jens Ramm
2020-03-31 17:34:25

Yessik Ziiq is it correct that exposure rates in general will go down with the photon s. Is my RERF Tests are showing 3sec for .025 and 7 sec for .050...?

Yessik Ziiq
2020-03-31 18:30:53

Anders Jens Ramm Are you multiplying the result by 2?

Anders Jens Ramm
2020-03-31 18:34:07

Yessik Ziiq lol no. I simply refer to my RERF result. So far my prints have been great, so I don’t know if it is the photon s that bring the curing time down or what.

Anders Jens Ramm
2020-03-31 18:34:37

My latest. 0.05 with 7 sec exposure.

Yessik Ziiq
2020-03-31 18:35:45

The numbers on the RERF tests are meant to be multiplied by 2, same with the original photon resin exposure test. It's not testing 1-8 seconds, it's testing 2-16 seconds.

Been a successful weekend printing my own characters. Just a couple of questions, cutting supports with pliers not great as it still leaves slight rough patches, I guess you might sand down or just use IPA to wash away supports? Also you might be able to see there’s a bit of warping on the feet, is this because the base is already curing? I’ve upped bottom layer exposure to 80s for the first 12 layers and upped normal exposure to 20s, means it takes longer but worth it as it’s working really well.

John Simpson
2020-03-30 19:18:29

I’ve found that a soak in hot water after your ipa wash and rinse softens the supports an they just come right off.

Jan Chessy Cesak
2020-03-30 19:23:56

gonna try that

John Simpson
2020-03-30 19:24:34

Jan Chessy Cesak it can make your prints a little cloudy but I prime all mine. ?

Jan Chessy Cesak
2020-03-30 19:24:47

John Simpson yop, same here

Daniel Weatherhead
2020-03-30 19:51:17

John Simpson I don’t actually have IPA at present so just been using hot soapy water, it does soften but still leaves hard bits right on the object itself. I’m sure I’ll find other ways, all trial and error.

Daniel Weatherhead
2020-03-30 19:51:51

John Simpson that it does, but not a problem for a prototype.

Revin Leong
2020-03-30 20:36:31

Based on the photos it looks like u could just print it flat without supports.

Daniel Weatherhead
2020-03-30 20:54:39

Revin Leong might try without supports, do you mean flat vertically or horizontally?

Revin Leong
2020-03-30 20:58:32

Daniel Weatherhead you could try both ways. Do check with the slicers auto supports to verify if u really need supports.

Jeff Lee
2020-03-30 21:53:19

John Simpson Is there a way to reduce or eliminate the cloudiness? Just printed something in clear resin overnight; I was hoping the hot water trick would let me get the supports off cleanly, but if it's going to impact the clarity, maybe I'd better look for a different method.

John Simpson
2020-03-31 01:28:10

Jeff Lee I’m not sure to be honest, I’m still very much a newbie myself.

Richard Tyler Jr
