I haven't printed in about 6 months and everything was printing great. Now everything I print is failing. Has anyone else experienced this and if so how did you over come.

The light could be failing. It's a consumable part and will start to go bad after a while of use.

so I was very nervous to change my FEP because I accidentally put a big ugly crease in 2 spots on my stock fep. Got a 5 pack on amazon and just got the thing on in less than 10 minutes. It was so much easier than I expected lol.

所以我非常緊張地改變我的fep, 因為我不小心在我的股票fep上放了一個大醜陋的裂痕. 在亞馬遜得到了一個5包, 並在不到10分鐘內開始了這個東西. 這比我想象的簡單多了lol.

Yeah, it's pretty straight forward. Did you tune it?

Tucker Adams

can you define tuning it? I flicked it gently with my fingernail to hear the sound and it seems just like stock

Yeah. Super easy right? I’ve done it about 10 times now

Tucker Adams
2020-03-30 08:24:46

considering it needs to be so perfect and and wrinkle free, it's intimidating having never done it before. I saw in the video on the anycubic youtube page for replacing a fep that you want a bottle cap thats about 13mm, so I went around my place measuring bottle caps till I had one that size haha

John Chrapkowski
2020-03-30 08:26:22

Tucker Adams I did the same! Now make sure you don’t lose it lol

Tucker Adams

its the cap to a gas x bottle haha, I am sure it'll be around indefinitely

Tucker Adams if you want to get precise, you can use a guitar tuning app on your phone. I tune my to 340 hz.

Ok we'll try number 1 failed. Next! So I printed this on the wrong printer which doesn't print in high enough resolution.
so as you can see because the resolution was lower the printer virtually did not see the helmets it also did not see any of the face detail and made the legs out to be one part instead of two.
These are the discoveries you make with 3D printing and while it may look to you like I am prodigiously printing these models a lot of what you're seeing is moving from failure to success.

Kevin Lems
2020-03-30 03:01:53

Why not first find the right settings for 1 model and then add more to the plate ? saves you a lot of resin ?

Robert Small
2020-03-30 03:11:19

Kevin Lems do far the photon classic has no real way to dial up the resolution. I should have printed it on the S. And I print in bulk because I sell kits. So I need to take that chance. It's worth it in the end. I have 8 resin and 2 filiment printers that run 24/7 365. This stuff happens! But I print at least 100 things a week.
It's part of the process.....I call it success from failures!

Kevin Lems
2020-03-30 03:13:15

Robert Small haha my bad ? tought it was a first time failure ? but in your case I can understand it's worth taking the risk ? what kind of kits do you sell of I may ask? ?

Robert Small
2020-03-30 03:14:44

Kevin Lems I'm in the process of designing kits out of early manned space race this was a never realized x20 Dyna-Soar that Boeing had proposed and was to be our first space vehicle before the Mercury space capsule but once Russia launched Gagarin into space we dropped the project for mercury

Robert Small

Kevin Lems
2020-03-30 03:16:11

Looks amazing! ? must be a really fun project to work on ?? did you design the models and parts yourself?

Robert Small
2020-03-30 03:16:38

Yes I have been in 3D graphics since 1988.

Kevin Lems
2020-03-30 03:19:17

Damn! You must have a ton of experience! Can I borrow some? ? ? I've just started using Blender and Forger (ipad) for making sculpts and models. Wich programs do you use?

Robert Small
2020-03-30 03:22:28

I've used almost every program out there without exaggerating but I can tell you the newest version of Blender is more capable then anyone under designing nuclear reactors could need!
As a matter of fact the new version I notice is starting to mimic al l of the other 3D programs combined. Since it's an open source software hundreds of thousands of us have been making suggestions because we have been using blender and everybody else's program. So you can imagine I highly recommend blender for two reasons it's easy to use and a comprable program costs nothing under than $1,500 a year just to use.
So let that sink in a comprable program to Blender say 3D Studio Max charges you $1,500 a year it is not a one-time cost.

Kevin Lems
2020-03-30 03:31:56

Nice! Thanks for the info ?? gonna stick with Blender ?? it has a lot of functions but there are also a lot of tutorials to follow. So I will keep working with it ?

Robert Small
2020-03-30 03:32:44

Kevin Lems let me know if you need help.
I'll point you to instruct if I can.

Robert Small
2020-03-30 03:33:31

Look into DAZ if you want humans and animals. The models merge with Blender. And it's a free one also.

Kevin Lems
2020-03-30 03:33:54

Robert Small I'll definitely let you know ?? thanks!

Scott Pavlich
2020-03-30 03:38:58

Not sure what you mean? The photon and the s are both capable of the same resolution: looks like your exposure is a problem

Robert Small
2020-03-30 03:44:50

Scott Pavlich no...no...my slicers say different. There are no resolution settings to effect the resolution. Even in Chitubox that feature drops off the the classic setting so your ony at the #4 setting as resolution. I print things with very fine detail twenty-four hours a day 365 days a year and I print over a hundred parts a week.

Robert Small
2020-03-30 03:45:08

Scott Pavlich
2020-03-30 03:47:03

Disagree: you can only print so well with a 2K resolution screen. I can pull equally as well with both my S’s and my reg photons regardless of the slicer

Robert Small
2020-03-30 03:52:14

Jim Monty
2020-03-30 03:56:46

Robert Small please explain as i am keen to understand if there is a real difference between the machines or clippers. do you use chitubox for both?

Robert Small
2020-03-30 04:14:00

Jim Monty no it's really a few things like how old the screen is. Because I print so much it's most likely that the screen is becoming what turns out to be out of focus. So the slicers settings are no help. I have changed 15 screens in 2 years. And u n otice as time goes buy one if the signs your gear is at the end of life in that screen is what's in this shot.
Plus in 3d (I've been using 3D software since 1988) you're looking at what's called a point cloud and it is what its name defines your 3D model is merely a cloud of points at any time from the transference changing it from one program to the next information can be dropped that while you see the full image on the screen the information may not transfer during the time of the slice.
I've only been doing this for the last 5 years so a tiny bit of what I'm saying is speculation.
But I have to classics two s's and 3 Elegoo Mars printers and even from printer to printer there are minut changes that's so far aren't predictable.

Jim Monty
2020-03-30 04:31:33

Which has produced the finest detail of your three types?

Robert Small
2020-03-30 04:37:28

Jim Monty I think so far the S and the Elegoo are neck and neck. The difference is the cost in screens and noise volume. The S is more the twice the cost of the screen of the Elegoo but.... The Elegoo is real loud! The Anycubic is more restrictive when it comes to access to the interior and the Elegoo is the simplest to level. It's like any tool. You learn in time how you can make the printer do what you want.

Robert Small
2020-03-30 04:38:19

Tip time. With a 3D object because the skin changes in dimension of the object simply rotating it in a different orientation in the slicer can sometimes clean up the model.
So by simply going into the slicer in rotating the model into directions you might not think you would want to use or it might be a problem to clean up is sometimes what saves the project.

Nipuna Gunarathne
2020-03-30 04:52:32

All of these 5.5" printers have the exact same screen. Some just have different connector ribbons but the screen itself is the same.

hi all

thought i would share an experiment i carried out. i wanted to see the minimum line width that i could print.

i printed this test piece and each line is cut to a different depth (0.05 / 0.08 / 0.1 / 0.2 / 0.3). for each set of 5 the width of the line is printed on the item and the spacing between lines is 0.5mm.

i was impressed that lines of 0.05mm were still showing up

this was printed at 0.02mm layer height and printed flat on the buildplate, any theories as to whether there would be better detail printing at a particular angle?

Jason Pedersen
2020-03-30 01:04:31

If this was printed at an angle, you would begin to see layer and pixel lines. Great test though, with informative results.

Andy Turtle Consiglio
2020-03-30 01:26:45

You know, I've been having a hard time printing at 0.02 layer height. What settings do you use when you print at that height?

Jim Monty
2020-03-30 01:31:41

i have Ameralabs AMD3 and i print at 4 sec exposures

Jim Monty
2020-03-30 02:06:16

im trying a vertical print now

Andy Turtle Consiglio
2020-03-30 03:17:20

Cool thank you!

Jim Monty
2020-03-30 03:42:17

right, a vertical (upright) print at 0.02mm gives much better definition even after priming. the negative spaces are between 0.085 and 0.12mm and the heights of each block average 0.5mm

Jim Monty
2020-03-30 03:42:45

primed these are the upright ones

Jim Monty
2020-03-30 03:43:45

and these are the less defined printed flat on build plate

Okay, so I noticed two things last few days with my photon zero.
Prints were failing in some areas. Did the bed of nails and lcd test. Pretty much saw that around edges don't cure well. And like 3 points in the middle. I clean the vat. Then notice resin on my lcd screen. Tested vat a few times, no leaks.
I ran another test, still a issue on am edge near where a spot was bad in the middle. I took vat out and did the exposure test. I have weird spots on my screen in it. Nothing leaked in since still sealed and the 3 drops of resin were more in the center.
I think I might need a new one. But is it common for screens to fail sometimes within a month of using?
Got like some 60+ish hours of use in it at the least.
Pic of screen to follow up soon. Running one more test.

Edit to add images. These weren't there before to my knowledge.

Trying to write a script that’ll auto orientate, then auto support in prusa slicer. Can do the auto supports and the expert of the STL, but can’t seem to find a auto orientate cmd line option, anyone know if it exists?

google "do it again"

you can just make a mouse macro

Max Morris
2020-03-29 22:49:16

Not really what I was after as I was hoping to just be able set it going on around 100 models and then just leave it, can’t do that with a mouse macro

Derek Reihe
2020-03-29 22:52:14

sure you can

do the support part, save it using a spreadsheet or notepad w/ keyboard commands (click on window border, then arrow key down to select a cell, then copy, paste into save window file name)

click on the window containing the files, click down arrow, drag into chitu, repeat

it will take a few tries to get the script repeating perfectly but its entirely doable, ive done it with thousands of repetitions in CAD programs

Max Morris
2020-03-29 22:55:06

Derek Reihe I’ll give it a try but it seems massively more awkward than just a simple cmd line option like the supports and the exporting!

Derek Reihe

you can try emailing them but I dont think what you are asking for exists

Here's a hint: if liquid resin seeped into your tools (clipper etc) while clipping off supports and got them somewhat stuck and no IPA or greasing treatment helps, try pouring some acetone over it and excercise them! My spring-opening clipper opens again now!

Good day!

I want to share my first work using 3D printing. And this is also my first experience with 3D sculpting. I started work with mastering # Mudbox and really loved this program. I hope it will replenish and develop, because, Despite the lack of many useful features from Zbrush, Mudbox is very convenient and has an absolutely intuitive and comfortable interface.

For printing, I used Model Clear resin and Model Cherry from # HARZLabs ,

Model Clear used for the eyes, water droplets on the wings and an imitation of a cloud, followed by tinting in alcohol with a caller from washing with Model Cherry. The result is quite an interesting result.

The wings were printed on another printer, FDM format. As a result, I am convinced that for most of my tasks, I need very high detail, which is available only to DLP, LCD printers so far.
