I thinking about printing really small objects like 2-3mm... I think what would be best setting to neglect the fact that bottom leyer is usualy flattened. Anyone had experience with printing objects so small any recomendations or tips ?
Jon Hazan 2020-03-27 08:31:10
I actually did this the other day with Stuart You need to use supports and a raft. At that size I couldn't get something that small to stay atrached to the build plate
Niall Forrester 2020-03-27 14:37:23
I agree that supports is probably the way to go. At that size, if you are designing the parts yourself, one option might be to build supports into the model itself. I have built cast resin model kits, and they commonly have small parts mounted on a l arger 'sprue'. You then cut off the parts with a sharp knife or razor saw. I have considered this option for my own printed small parts where supports will be tricky (not actually experimented with the idea yet though). If using normal supports, try using only one or two smallish supports at the lowest point(s), then really tiny supports elsewhere if needed. Experiment with your own support settings, do not trust default settings (for sure avoid auto generated supports). And spend some time figuring out the orientation that will minimise the support needed.
Piotr Kuśmierski 2020-03-27 17:43:29
I think I'll have to design supports myself because those of chitubox even when added manually "bite" into the model too deep. Thank you for the advice!
Jon Hazan 2020-03-28 23:16:42
Piotr Kuśmierski Use PrusaSlicer it has far better supports. Add the supports, export and then slicer as normal in chitu

The prusa slicer supports bite in model even deeper ;) . I use it daily on larger models

These are photos of the same coronadice. Since Changing the FEP earlier this week, I haven't gotten any successful prints. I've switched to this model as it's small and demonstrates the problem. I either get supports and no object on the build plate or distortions like these.
I have releveled. The problem seems related to changing the FEP. As for temperature, my house hasn't changed, but I'm sure warmer would be better for the resin.
This is a Photon S. Anycubic ECO Resin. Prusa supports at 100%. Photon Workshop slicer (latest version).

Fred Breton My Corona! I didn't think changing the FEP (my first) would have affected my exposure settings. I believe my old FEP must have been much looser than the replacement. Thanks again!

Zero owners - I'm struggling to get my bed leveled - it seems like no matter how gentle I am, one side twists and is a bit lower than the other. I'm able to get good prints, but I'd like to get them better.
I'm printing some better test objects - but even on this, it's off 0.3mm.
Keith O'Donnell 2020-03-17 03:17:55
Honestly, I haven’t found resin to be good for perfectly flat requirements. I mean, you really wouldn’t want to make anything mechanical with this stuff.
Diego Gonzalez del Rio 2020-03-17 03:27:23
Don't print it flat on the bed. The suction twist the "bottom layers"
Mark Wardle 2020-03-17 03:27:32
would not worry about it. printing directly of the bed is where the base of supports are and those are throw away. so alsong as the models stick and tbh the pics look fine.
Mark Wardle 2020-03-17 03:28:16
i tend to print miniatures directly of the base as the base. again the pics look great. :)
John Driggers 2020-03-17 03:30:22
I print a lot off the bed as well, and it's just bad enough that it triggers my OCD. :) I'm printing a better test object now - this is my first Anycubic, so my first go with the bed mount / leveling mechanism.
Jonathan Bollon 2020-03-17 03:31:14
Man, you're asking a 400€ printer to be as accurate as a 26 000 one. Guess what ?
Keith O'Donnell 2020-03-17 03:38:01
John Driggers I mean, I wouldn’t say it’s OCD until you’re up at 3 AM printing your 20th imperfect cube because you’re afraid your house might catch on fire if you don’t.
John Driggers 2020-03-17 03:44:47
No, I'm asking that it be as accurate as a $299 one a single axis. The $26k one I get 0.025mm out of on three. :)
David Collinson 2020-03-17 03:49:25
Ah, I see your problem. Your test equipment is too good! Use cheaper and less accurate verniers and the problems will go away ;)
David Collinson 2020-03-17 03:51:45
Also, this is a good solution. There are others out there that do the same thing, and on thingiverse if you want to make your own (metal is smarter to use then resin). Set this right, and making sure the photon itself is level to start with, and it'll eliminate that discrepancy pretty well https://www.fepshop.com/....../anycubic-photon-easyz0-kit/
John Driggers 2020-03-17 03:58:09
That looks a lot like what I want - thanks David !
Jonathan Bollon 2020-03-17 05:25:51
John Driggers Teh you're already as accurate as you can be with a photon. Now if you want something a little better, take a better resin. The machine itself can't get better than that.
John Driggers 2020-03-17 05:27:53
David, do you know off the top of your head if the Zero and the "Normal" Photon mounting heads are the same size? I'm not at the house yet....
David Collinson 2020-03-17 06:17:05
John Driggers not off the top of my head, no.
Travis Callahan 2020-03-17 06:18:14
agreed. I recommend SPI. Or as we in the machining world like to call them Sorta precision instruments.
Caio Donini 2020-03-17 08:06:51
It's a chinese printer, use chinese gauges!
Darko Miljak 2020-03-17 17:46:47
Resins have properties FYI, shrink age and elongation. Unavoidable. Some companies clearly state those properties, some dont. The printer itself is not the issue, the resins are.
Michael D Showalter 2020-03-17 19:25:39
Try leveling your entire machine, then level the bed. Leveling the bed really only makes it flush in regards to the build plate, but if the machine isn't level, nothing will be...liquids need to be level to the world, the build plate only needs to be level in regards tot he bed
John Driggers 2020-03-17 20:59:25
David Collinson just an FYI - not the same, nor the same mechanism. I was able to carefully tune most of it out by repeatedly leveling and retightening. Gonna try and figure out what’s causing it and see if I can come up with a solution.
John Driggers 2020-03-17 21:18:23
You think it's the resin that causes one half of the print to be thicker than the other?
Juan Pablo Bagnon 2020-03-17 21:19:12
you are fighting with exposure(over/under) and bed leveling, best way to avoid those is to put 5mm supports on it.
Mike Kanellos 2020-03-17 22:05:20
I had the same problem. I kept leveling and always the same issue. After the first layer it would loose its leveling. Doesn’t matter how much I tighten the top screw! I installed the easy leveler with some adjustments and the problem is solved

Hey there, Im new to printing with Anycubic Photon S. I tried with the tranlucent green Resin and want to change to a grey resin. I bought the one of Anycubic Resins but I hate the smell. The green resin dosnt smell, but the grey...
Could anyone give me an recommendation for a grey resin, not smelling for 28mm miniatures ? I want clear details, layerheight... 0.03mm till 0.02mm. Working settings for exposure would be a dream :)

Hi all, I recently received my photon and I just tried to print the photon resin exposure range tester file (X3msnake) from photonsters.
Somehow it didn’t work out quite well...it didn’t form anything on my build plate...
Any tips for me to do the exposure test? Resin used: Anycubic ECO Clear
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have 2 issues with my late prints, i don't know exactly why. Maybe some here could help !
- First, 2 prints in a row, my raft that was almost occupying all the space on the build plate got detached a bit and warped for some milimetters. Causing part of my supports to not print properly.
- Second, but I think it's is linked to 1 : in some areas, my raft is 1mm tall and in some other, it's 3mm. So i'm wasting way too much resin for the raft.
I already releveled the bed, but I don't see any reason why it would warp and print more than it should.
Maybe my FEP is damaged or simply too old ?

Never tried to print something as big as this one, pretty much max size of the printer. The slicer says 43ml but I dont trust it... I guess it woud be better to watch the tank, wouldn't it? I actually dont even know how much I'm pouring into the tank :)

Hello, I need help with my photon. It seems to be pausing in itself during midprint(50-60% completion), then stops the printing when I try to resume the print. The buildplate rises halfway the z axis. It did the same thing for 3 consecutive times now on 3 different files. All settings used in the printer worked before and I have no levelling issues. My prints are usually 10hrs+ and my 3months printer has the updated firmware. Anyone else encountered this issue?

I need some help from my fellow Europeans.
I'm looking to print the Photon air filter system by Jarrod Smith, but I'm having some trouble finding a 6001 filter.
I'm trying to source all the materials on German Amazon.de as that's where I will be buying the fan and some other accessories for the printer.
I found the 3M brand filter, but it ships from either the States or the UK which means that the postage to Sweden will be way too high.
Same with the Chinese 6001CN versions.
Are there cheaper alternatives available? Perhaps a different fitting to enable the use of cheaper or more common filters?
