Samuel Herrera
2020-04-02 11:51:47

Noah Belveal you're right ? forgive me

Samuel Herrera
2020-04-02 11:52:30

Jason Willis I haven't done that yet but when I backed the kick starter I have 5 minis I can get and I'm definitely going to use that for grunts

Noah Belveal
2020-04-02 11:53:02

No problem, my dude. ? ??

2020-04-02 12:17:24

2020-04-02 12:35:54

Those are so clean! I'd love to see what they look like in the slicer program. I can't seem to nail the support game with out have to clean em up like crazy!

Samuel Herrera
2020-04-02 12:38:01

Mason McKane I use the purse supports I think Danny had a video about them

2020-04-02 13:58:28

So I'm somewhat new when it comes to 3d printing. I've bought a anycubic photon and have been trying to work with resins but for some reason no matter what I do I cant attain this level of quality on it.

Samuel Herrera
2020-04-02 13:59:39

Gavin Patterson damn it really? In sorry)= I'm no pro but it's all in the settings

Gavin Patterson
2020-04-02 14:03:40

Samuel Herrera yeah the only problem is i cant find out what I'm messing up. I did check out the chart on exposure times and off times and such but it hasn't changed the quality it still doesn't look like a 50 micron minature

Samuel Herrera

2020-04-03 05:38:43

I guess you're right it's so hard to see these tiny faces lol

Mario Hippmann
2020-04-03 05:53:59

Samuel Herrera yes overexposed

Noah Belveal
2020-04-03 06:48:28

Yeah. If you dial down the regular exposure times, then you tend to see finer detail in your prints. Of course, there will be a point at which the print fails, so it's kind of an art to look for the ideal balance.

Samuel Herrera
2020-04-03 06:49:23

Noah Belveal thanks guy's (= I'll run the test when I get more resin

Mario Hippmann
2020-04-03 06:52:10

Samuel Herrera the test needs actual nearly 0 ml resin

Samuel Herrera
2020-04-03 06:53:28

Artisan Guild on Patreon.

Yessik Ziiq
2020-04-02 09:23:25

Pretty soon Titan Forge on My Mini Factory will be releasing pre supported models. Both them and Artisan Guild Patreons offer presupport, Titan Forge it's a free add on, AG you pay 8$ extra a month for it.

There are lots of other patreons offering presupported models, but they're usually just autosupported, so they'll gunk up your printer over time.

Matthew Allen
2020-04-02 09:24:01

https://www.patreon.com/minimonstermayhem has some amazing sculpts, and each model comes with a file that has supports already added.

Eric Pribish
2020-04-02 09:24:54

The AG ones look to be very well done to print very clean models.

Izak Fields
2020-04-02 08:30:25

why ?

Paul Fagan
2020-04-02 08:33:30

Izak Fields When the FEP leaks it protects from resin getting underneath the screen.

Kathy Oettle
2020-04-02 08:34:42

Izak Fields when you get a resin leak, the tape will prevent the resin from leaking down into your screen. Ask me how I know....I’m currently waiting for my new one which may take a long time due to coronavirus

George Bulte
2020-04-02 08:35:28

George Bulte

This prevents the Fep tilting the display and damaging the connection cable. Leaking is the next problem.

Charles Davenport
2020-04-02 08:48:12

It's a damned sight better than having the damned thing pulled away from the base like mine did. Can you explain why u are using kapton as opposed to any other type of tape? I mean, will not regular clear tape do the job?

Keith Banfield
2020-04-02 08:48:39

Looks just like mine, already saved me from a punctured FEP once too

Matt Hooton
2020-04-02 08:50:27

Kapton is made to work at very high temperatures, other than that I can't really think of why it would matter, it's similar thickness to cellotape

Dennis Walter Jr.
2020-04-02 08:51:14

Charles Davenport it is super thin also.

Chris Christiansen
2020-04-02 08:51:20

Steven Howland
2020-04-02 08:59:07

Looks good to me, I did the same and it works great.

Jarrod Smith
2020-04-02 09:00:36

That's what I did but no overlap in the corners, so you just have one thickness all around.

Andy Turtle Consiglio
2020-04-02 09:01:42

Thank you for the feedback everyone! I need to install a new FEP as well because I'm a noob and damaged my current one

Josh Dalgliesh
2020-04-02 09:02:47

Charles Davenport it's due to how thin it is, checking in at about 0.055mm thick. Also otherwise known as polyimide tape. Basically the thinner the better for leveling the plate and ensuring your prints work as intended.

Byron Taylor
2020-04-02 09:23:37

I just did that yesterday - AnyCubic has a great video so I did it easily

Michal Powierza
2020-04-02 09:34:48

Michal Powierza
2020-04-02 09:52:37

This scratches is Just normal, print on them. Change when really be damaged or when is not clear from scratches ;)

Jarkko Liutu
2020-04-02 09:54:00

Ain't that affecting the print quality / resolution by lifting the VAT upwards?

Clifford Schwankner
2020-04-02 10:04:05

Thats how i do it...

Ken Chi Nok Ng
2020-04-02 10:13:22

I added mine after plate was level and printed about a month as I keep forgetting to order some then wait for post, and it prints just the same after the tape was added, I didn't think it would be a problem if the plate is level already

Ken Chi Nok Ng
2020-04-02 10:18:10

I have worse looking mask on mine and still done 60hrs plus prints and it's still going after washing and changing resin, fep doesn't looks nice after few prints quickly but seem to still work really well, prints look just as good as always, and my fep look much worse than yours

Russell Beer
2020-04-02 11:04:56

Kathy , You learnt the same way as me I gather.. With mine I had resin all through the Printer as well as a broken screen.

Barthels Marvels
2020-04-02 11:09:29

That’s what we do

Sonny Green
2020-04-02 11:19:30

Nikola Pijanac
2020-04-02 12:07:39

Markus Atreides Garma
2020-04-02 12:57:29

Be on the lookout for rising corners of the tape at the top right. Excessive curling could make you need to replace it if it then gets in the way of bed leveling.

Andy Turtle Consiglio
2020-04-02 13:07:39

Markus Atreides Garma thanks for the heads up!

Justin Scott Larson
2020-04-02 14:23:16

Space duct tape. I use it too lol

Henrik Skogstrøm
2020-04-02 14:52:12

Is this smart to do for the Photon s too?

Lorenzo Di Sante
2020-04-02 15:46:53

Lorenzo Di Sante
2020-04-02 15:47:33

Jarkko Liutu kapton tape is used because it's extremely thin. So nope.

Lorenzo Di Sante
2020-04-02 15:48:56

Mine looks almost the same and works great

Stefan Ritchie
2020-04-02 16:13:18

Yup, I do it. And I had a FEP leak, and the tape stopped the resin from leaking into the gaps. But also, the resin retarded the tape's adhesive, so I sort of feel like I got lucky, really.

Joe McCluskey
2020-04-02 16:46:35

FFFFFFK why didn’t I think of this before replacing 3 screens on my Creality, then replacing it with a Photon ? ? ? ? .

I’m on it !
But does the yellow tint not affect the UV exposure?

Tiernan Messmer
2020-04-02 16:48:01

Joe McCluskey it's only on the very edge of the glass, and the screen doesn't go to the edge, so no UV goes through the tape.

Jarkko Liutu
2020-04-02 16:49:59

Lorenzo Di Sante yesh I know it is thin. But in my logic if its 0.05mm thick it lifts vat 0.05mm and causes something to exposure for sure. I bet those prints are more unsharp a bit.

Lorenzo Di Sante
2020-04-02 16:56:23

Jarkko Liutu the first layers are overexposed anyways to build the adhesive base. Also the tape gives thickness only on the very distant edges of the screen, the fep film is a flexible drum and will still be pushed onto the screen.

Jarkko Liutu
2020-04-02 17:03:51

Sounds logical. Thanks for the clearance. Stay safe!

Ken Ishio
2020-04-02 17:09:30

Jarkko Liutu it would highly affect it because light bleed due to the tiny gap. Fortunately, the build plate or print itself presses into the fep film putting pressure on the lcd making the gap less critical. This is just my observations and idea,

Jarkko Liutu
2020-04-02 17:19:28

Ken Ishio well, I was thinking the light bleed / leakage too due my experiece in different exposure techniques in fine art print making.

Lorenzo Di Sante
2020-04-02 17:32:53

While taping my screen I pay attention to keep the tape distant as much possible from the center, and I also have long exposure on first (6) layers, my printing quality hasn't been affected in any way and I also made prints with completely full building volume

Lorenzo Di Sante
2020-04-02 17:33:28

For example this is a print at full building volume

Lorenzo Di Sante
2020-04-02 17:35:08

Without the tape obviously it's easier to do everything properly, but the tape doesn't make me scared of having a picture on the fep

Lorenzo Di Sante
2020-04-02 17:42:22

You also need to consider that the edges of the screen are 2 or 3 centimetres distant from real active area of the screen and that the fep drum is "stretchy" and tends to stay sticked onto the screen for static electricity effect, some people put a tin y amount of baby powder onto the screen to prevent the fep to stick too much on the screen (due to vacuum sealing effect), while with the tape on the edges the fep shouldn't be able to stick onto the whole screen but it will stay onto the screen only in the real printing area and should help the print to pop off the fep on each layer switching. So in some logical way the tape could help layers detaching during the printing process. It's an hypothetical reasoning, I can't prove it sadly

Ken Schmitt
2020-04-02 17:50:51

I had one in 1 peice, how are you suposed to line that up and apply it?

Ken Schmitt
2020-04-02 17:53:06

kaptain? (captin?, captn) is the choice, as its so thin. https://images-wixmp-ed30a86b8c4ca887773594c2.wixmp.co......

Bob Deblier
2020-04-02 17:56:10

Kapton - close enough ;)

Henrik Skogstrøm
2020-04-02 19:00:48

Henrik Skogstrøm
2020-04-02 19:01:56

Ken Schmitt do you mean you have one tape covering the whole screen and edges?

Lorenzo Di Sante
2020-04-02 19:08:31

Henrik Skogstrøm make sure to apply the tape more distant from the center as possible but still covering the seam between the screen and the machine base (because it's what you want to protect)

Rand Stamm
2020-04-02 19:15:41

Looks right to me

Ashley Cobb
2020-04-02 20:01:09

Nikola Pijanac when you replace the LCD, it’s good insurance to seal it; the new LCDs don’t even come with double sided tape.

Nothing to do with rushing.

Bruno Tabarani
2020-04-02 21:54:59

Eddie Sells

Charles Davenport
2020-04-03 01:25:26

Damn! Wish I knew about this before having to replace my screen! What's worse is that the Photon is manufactured knowing this problem exists and does nothing to prevent it or warn customers of the potential problem. Thank you, Eddie. I've just ordered mine from your url!

Rida Vanderkam

Good idea an alcohol bath where it spilled should be a good start.

After the alcohol bath I'll do that.

I spilled violet on faded jeans. Used alcohol and got most off but they look like I was molested by the Kool Aid man

Sorry dude, every time I've seen this posted it's from a faulty screen.

Tim Fitzmaurice
2020-04-02 07:33:15

If it goes straight through its either dead pixels or something blocking in between the fep and the screen.

Your LCD is cracked and needs replacement

Kevin Busch

Could be a simple as a little hair. Best bet is to clean out the vat but dump that resin in another container. Then shake well and pour in new resin, you might be able to just screen it out too

Michael Lee

Patch it w some resin.

You didn't recite the lantern's Creed while printing, also dead pixel sounds right

Callum McIntyre

Israel Martinez

Is it in the same spot all the way down if so I agree with what everyome is saying about the pixel

Herman Simpson

There is literally no point in diagnosing until you try to print again. 1 failed print doesn't indicate a problem with your screen.

Francisco Quesada
2020-04-02 08:50:50

I started to get holes just like that when LCD failed. It got worse and worse. Do a quick Exposure test and see if it’s is the LCD or not. It was very obvious in my case.

Francisco Quesada
2020-04-02 08:54:49

This was my Exposure test when mine went bad. Caused holes each time in that spot. More apeared over time

Dead Pixels?

Sonny Green
2020-04-02 11:27:57

I would say that or resin got under the LCD...

Lorenzo Di Sante

Remove the plate, remove the vat and out a piece of paper onto your screen, run a print and check if you've deadpixels ✌️

Michael Ray ooo sorry man. That looks like mine before I got a replacement

Francisco Quesada
2020-04-02 23:47:31

You need to replace that LCD. It's not that hard. Most of the components are easy to replace. Just replaced the mainboard and touchscreen on one of my printers

Michael Ray

Francisco Quesada not gonna lie I’m a little scared of it..(the process of disassemble) but I also really like this machine.... I’m a do it!!

Michael Ray I watched videos on YouTube first, just to make sure. But I am also a computer tech, so I guess that helps lol

Michael Ray

Francisco Quesada that does... I’m in a cath lab... my days are spent with other peoples blood on me, I can take them apart... but machines... their unforgiving

Usually dead pixels cause this, I've already change my screen four times. You just have to check, remove the plate and the tank, start the print and watch the lcd.
