How often do you run the resin in your vat through a strainer? After every print? Every Failed Print? Every 3rd print? Never?
John Chrapkowski 2020-03-30 08:55:41
If I have any suspicion that’s there’s chunks
Josh Tollison 2020-03-30 08:55:48
Every failed print or if I think something might have broken off in there. Otherwise, there is no need.
John Valdes 2020-03-30 08:57:44
I only do it when I put it back in the bottle or maybe a fail
Kempster Kevin 2020-03-30 09:04:53
after every print.
Tyler Castile 2020-03-30 09:15:46
Only on failures and then only when I'm not positive I've removed everything
Oksana Shevchenko 2020-03-30 11:06:53
Only if after inspection of the print I notice an issue. And when I swap colors
Oksana Shevchenko 2020-03-30 11:07:39
Sometimes Ill gently run the spatula along the bottom to see if I can feel anything stuck to the fep. If not, I don't strain
Daniel Green 2020-03-30 13:41:04
i drain the vat after every print or else the complaints department goes into overdrive about the smell
Jacob Palmer 2020-03-30 15:19:43
Maybe after 10-15 prints. Or if it's a spectacular failure
Mi Ha 2020-03-30 15:23:11
There's really no reason to. If you suspect there are chunks of cured resin you can use the detection tool on 40-60s, then scoop the thin sheet of cured resin out and voila, you have no chunks left. I only do it if I'm changing the resin.

It's complete and ready to kill some half-breed demons. This build has a core/spine of FDM prints and then all of the outer detail parts are resin prints bonded to it. It was definitely a learning process for using the resin printer for this but its now an almost 100% replica of the actual Constantine Holy Shotgun. This was a build I initially put off as the detail was just not possible on an FDM printer without a huge amount of post printing work to get it smooth so it was the main reason to get a resin printer. Not a normal build and it had a few bumps but I'm still happy with it as there's just detail from every angle. FDM prints done on a CraftUnique Craftbot 2 Using 3D Filaprint Iron grey PLA and the resin prints done on a Anycubic Photon using their own Black resin.

John Colt Hendricks Thanks dude.
Adil Muschelewicz 2020-03-30 17:24:43
Daniel Lilygreen Its the print file not sure I never had time to print one. It’s on an old HD’s somewhere. He said was modeled In solid works or some shit. And they had him 3D print it. Dudes like 10 years older than me. So when I worked on Constantine he reached out. I wanna say. He does the 3D printing now for Batnthesun. And we’re working on some red hood pilot now.
Adil Muschelewicz 2020-03-30 17:26:30
I’m the Adil from the 3D print. Com article. Lmk if you want any of those. I kept the rights to every one we did for the show. Might as well print an icon of pazuzu

Mike Vayakornvichit 2020-03-29 23:45:52

I was wondering about this before. With so many people having adhesion issues, nobody thought of coating the FEP with something to make it less adhesive? Maybe they just didn't want to risk ruining their FEP and resin...
Neil Burns 2020-03-29 23:48:30
Oh that's a good idea
Michael Harley 2020-03-29 23:48:50

thnx sir
Mike Vayakornvichit 2020-03-29 23:48:58
Ahmed Hebishi ok! good to know. i just wanted to make sure I understand what you're saying. does it also help with making the fep not stick to the print?
Ahmed Hebishi 2020-03-29 23:49:30
Mike Vayakornvichit 2020-03-29 23:50:12
Michael Harley who cares if he watermarks everything. it's the content that matters, not the watermark.
Ahmed Hebishi 2020-03-29 23:51:34
Mike Vayakornvichit we alot of times published our work in research articles.thnx for your comment
Mike Vayakornvichit 2020-03-29 23:52:43
my only curiosity is if the pledge will mess with the resin once the print is completely processed (ie will it have the chemicals from the pledge embedded in the layers and will it affect the integrity of the parts)
Mike Vayakornvichit 2020-03-29 23:53:18
Ahmed Hebishi i know. both my parents are doctors. ive seen some of the journals they get
Peter Teal 2020-03-29 23:55:05

Boris Hübner i do something similar but I use 3n1 with PTFE.
Ahmed Hebishi 2020-03-29 23:58:07
you well get aclear surface for light to pass and get non sticky surface
Nic Olin 2020-03-29 23:58:51
I’ve heard of using rainx but have not seen anyone use pledge before.
Ahmed Hebishi 2020-03-30 00:00:38
Mike Vayakornvichit yes sir
John Driggers 2020-03-30 00:09:19
Ahmed Hebishi what does it do to the resin?
Nathan Kopp 2020-03-30 00:11:58
Ahmed Hebishi 2020-03-30 00:12:04
John Driggers nothing,it make the printed resin better as it get clear surface for the light to pass without interference and make the surface non sticky to printed item
John Driggers 2020-03-30 00:13:02
Ahmed Hebishi didn’t know Pledge was compatible with dental resins.
Chris Thorstensen 2020-03-30 00:16:37
You forgot to watermark your meme
TJ Robichaux 2020-03-30 00:30:16
Some of those waxes leave build up over time. Be warned
Ahmed Hebishi 2020-03-30 00:35:11
thnx sir for your comment ? .i think wax will not the time to be built up as the transparent film has time to be replaced.
TJ Robichaux 2020-03-30 00:39:05
Ahmed Hebishi maybe. But some people dont know the risks and should have all the facts. My nfep has been going for 4 or 5 months now and still going. Plenty of time for a build up if the wax leaves anything behind.
Daniel D'Intino 2020-03-30 00:52:34
If it’s light transmission that’s the issue then why not just replace the fep? Besides, even if the fep is foggy or lightly scratched, it will not affect print quality to a noticeable amount. The resin “oils?” Fill in the cracks and makes it clear.
Ahmed Hebishi 2020-03-30 00:55:14
thnx for your comment ? .i think replace he fep every print is difficult
Michal Powierza 2020-03-30 00:56:12
There is a special liquid to make fep less adhesive. But - IMO - how you want make less adhesive pure teflon? It's not a fep problem, but user and machines. ;)
Daniel D'Intino 2020-03-30 00:57:33
Ahmed Hebishi ok thank you for sharing my friend. It’s a great idea if it works for you, but I think the bigger advantage is helping the print lift off the fep
Tim Parks 2020-03-30 01:04:55
I’ve had adhesion issues, and would be willing to at least try this to see what happens. I am worried about getting a contaminant in the resin from the pledge.
Igor Jezdimir 2020-03-30 01:26:49
Im a dentist. This is a bit overkill with the watermark,dr.understand this but puts people off . No one is going to publish in a proffessional dental journal,no is anyone going to steal a picture of a fep tank or publish this in research artice since the articles have standards with font, pictures and ect. But everyone has their own thing,go ahead
Kele Oneill 2020-03-30 01:32:21
Get over it. Good content
Kele Oneill 2020-03-30 01:33:44
The Isopropyl should break that down too though no?
TJ Robichaux 2020-03-30 01:36:17
I'm unsure. And to be honest I'm not sure the wax cleaner would be an issue either. I just remember some of those types of products can leave a build up. But honestly if the print is sticking to the fep theres a problem somewhere and using something to make the fep less "sticky" is really only covering up the real issue.
Thomas Harrell 2020-03-30 01:37:59
I'd definitely consider trying this out when you're close to replacing FEP anyway and with a small amount of resin in the vat you're not out much if it doesn't work out. Sounds legit to me.
Paul Oliveira 2020-03-30 01:39:16
This way he owns the copyrights to pledge and fep cleaning procedures..who knows?? let him do his thing
Omar Mandour 2020-03-30 01:50:33
Dr.Ahmed i will send you message for some questions please.
Joe Brislane 2020-03-30 01:52:50

Randy Blair it’s super fun to make fun of people for whom English is a second language.
Stefan Giudici 2020-03-30 02:29:25
There aren't that many things that are less adhesive than fep itself
Alexandre Renard 2020-03-30 02:43:19
after cleaning I use this product and it's perfect
Randy Blair 2020-03-30 02:47:25
Is it?
Nathan Kopp 2020-03-30 02:53:57
Ya i would not do anything to mess with the fep.
Ernest Sandridge Ill 2020-03-30 04:54:23
I actually saw this and it was time for me to clean my FEP since I wont use my printer likely today. I gave this a try, with Pledge multisurface. I did my usual wipe down and a touch of IPA to make sure I lift and cured resin from fails if any, then fo llowed with this and it actually made a difference, seems I have a new step to my cleaning. Havent printed to see any effect there yet, but it certainly looks a lot better.
Ahmed Hebishi 2020-03-30 04:56:04
Ernest Sandridge Ill thnx for your feedback ?
Ahmed Hebishi 2020-03-30 04:57:25
Joe Brislane thnx sir

Here's a hint: if liquid resin seeped into your tools (clipper etc) while clipping off supports and got them somewhat stuck and no IPA or greasing treatment helps, try pouring some acetone over it and excercise them! My spring-opening clipper opens again now!
Angus Sanders 2020-03-29 19:12:22
Aceton will break thr resin down.
Daniel Kottmair 2020-03-29 19:14:17
Angus Sanders good to know. Apparently even cured resin, cause the IPA did NOTHING here, so it must've already cured..
Angus Sanders 2020-03-29 19:36:12
Daniel Kottmair yea just leave it to soak, takes a bit of time but it breaks it down.
Daniel Kottmair 2020-03-29 19:40:54
Angus Sanders IPA? I tried soaking for hours to no effect..
Angus Sanders 2020-03-29 19:43:35
Daniel Kottmair no leave it soaking in acetone. IPA doesn’t do anything really

Good day!
I want to share my first work using 3D printing. And this is also my first experience with 3D sculpting. I started work with mastering # Mudbox and really loved this program. I hope it will replenish and develop, because, Despite the lack of many useful features from Zbrush, Mudbox is very convenient and has an absolutely intuitive and comfortable interface.
For printing, I used Model Clear resin and Model Cherry from # HARZLabs ,
Model Clear used for the eyes, water droplets on the wings and an imitation of a cloud, followed by tinting in alcohol with a caller from washing with Model Cherry. The result is quite an interesting result.
The wings were printed on another printer, FDM format. As a result, I am convinced that for most of my tasks, I need very high detail, which is available only to DLP, LCD printers so far.

Francesco Ostili Iris - is separate part, which I paint manually, before glue it with hemisphere. I told that I could make a tutorial someday, but currently I have no time for that...

I'm thinking about getting another resin printer and I'm a little bit stuck. I haven't looked at resin printers since I bought by Photon in Nov 2018 so I'm a little out of the loop.
Should I get another Photon, albeit a new fangled one, or something similar like an Elegoo Mars?
Something the same size but that gives other advantages like the Phrozen Sonic Mini
Or go larger? Reccomendations and reasons are most welcome.
Also do any of the community tools like the Photon File Validator work for any of the other LCD printers, even if it means a little workaround?
Thanks in advance for any opinions.

Need more height?
Chris Carter 2020-03-29 05:53:11
Not specifically, weighing up my options at the moment. Just know that I want a second resin printer
John Chrapkowski 2020-03-29 05:58:23
Chris Carter cool. That’s where I’ve been coming short is height
Rick Hanson 2020-03-29 06:27:25
I got a Qidi Shadow recently. It's functionally almost identical to the Photon (and in fact the build plate assembly seems to be exactly the same), except it's got a nice rugged dual Z axis like the Photon S. Vats are size compatible with the regular a nd S Photons, Mars, and Epax X1. I discovered completely by accident that it will happily print a *.photon file in addition to the native *.cbddlp, so the Photon software tool chain still works perfectly. I'm happy enough with it that I ended up selling my Photon to a friend on the cheap so he could get started with resin printing.
Chris Sawtelle 2020-03-29 06:28:53
I also have a QIDI Shadow and have had no issues.
Chris Carter 2020-03-29 06:37:14
What's the advantages of the Shadow over say the Mars? Just had a quick Google and it is considerably more expensive. Not that the price is a problem just wondering what is on offer for the price
Darko Miljak 2020-03-29 06:41:07
Wait for next gen, monochrome screen, bigger buildplate models, like Epax 133 or 156
Nesh Imperial 2020-03-29 06:50:59
I love my photon s .... Just one time I set Z and everything works perfect... Maybe I sell fdm printers and buy more resins printers
Mark Wardle 2020-03-29 07:07:43
phrozen sonic mini would be my next buy. :)
Chris Carter 2020-03-29 07:08:23
Mark Wardle I admit I'm tempted by the speed of printing
Mark Wardle 2020-03-29 07:09:05
its not the speed i am interested in its the mono screen that will last for a long time. :)
Danny Bloemendaal 2020-03-29 07:58:54
Well it all boils down to what type of volume you want and quality. Research all your options lots of info out their. I’m looking at a phrozen Transform or preoply phenom.
Julia Nichols 2020-03-29 08:37:03
I have a G3D T-1000 with a print volume that is enormous and the speed is ridiculous. My Anycubic would be printing for hours (5+) for something I can print in twenty minutes on the T-1000. My issue is, I can't figure out how to keep it working. The re are so many great features-no dealing with FEP, huge build volume, speed, etc. The software is crap and the servo motor is a baby. Needs an onboard control panel as it's controlled via UI now. For plug and play, the Photon is great. If you have the expertise and want to churn out a hundred prints a day, the T-1000 would be ideal.
Julia Nichols 2020-03-29 08:37:58
T-1000 build size/speed
Hoffman Panameño 2020-03-29 10:11:49
I use the photon file validator on my sonic mini
Ken Chi Nok Ng 2020-03-29 10:19:35
Go larger, definitely go larger, always good to have the option ready, if you see my recent post on the size of the model you would agree to go larger ?
Matthew Ullman 2020-03-29 10:57:53
Wait for elegoo saturn
Ben Bequer 2020-03-29 11:36:43
I have it. I had a Photon. I'll never buy a slow printer again. I was in the market for the Transform, as I wanted a large resin printer. No more. Now I'm waiting until the tech they have in the Sonic Mini comes to a bigger form factor. Seriously, guys, it prints 3-4 TIMES faster. It's crazy.
William Tatum 2020-03-29 20:41:13
Ben Bequer I feel ya. I love my photon, but 10-12 hour builds definitely hurts.
Samuel Bowden 2020-03-29 22:10:51
Danny Bloemendaal I finally got my Transform and so far I love it. The massive build plate opens up a lot of fun new options
Danny Bloemendaal 2020-03-29 22:44:48
That’s what I am looking for. Taking my time as pandemic has upset everything so I am rebuilding my business model around it for printing.
Ben Bequer 2020-03-30 04:36:29
I would wait until this new tech in the Sonic Mini (speed, longer-lasting screen) comes to a larger sized printer. As of right now, the slower printers are an older tech. Give it 6 months and there'll be Transform/Phenom-sized fast printers. Instead of days, you print in hours. At present, I'm printing a tray full of minis for my Imperial Guard (about 8 minis) in 2 hours.
Kempster Kevin 2020-03-30 06:08:45
I do like my Sonic Mini, it's about 7hr to print the full 130mm z height.
Chris Carter 2020-03-30 06:10:31
Kempster Kevin that would be very nice about now, I just did a full height 17hr print in my Photon. I'm eyeing up a Sonic Mini now just trying to check out what Import Duties I might get stung with.
Daniel Loo 2020-03-30 10:46:22
Ben Bequer Check Phrozen Sonic 4K XL

Does anyone have any experience with this exposure test? What’s your opinion of the result? (I know this isn’t the preferred test, but I’ve given up on reading the other one, every time someone posts one I try to read it and EVERYONE picks very different settings than I saw ? .) This one is exposed with 0.05 layer height, with 115s on the bottoms layers and 18s normal. The circled area are thin risen areas I accidentally crunched while cleaning. Resin is AnyCubic Gray. Thanks for any insights you can offer!

Lee Furry 2020-03-29 00:17:10
That was my thought as well, this one was exposed at 80s bottom and 8s normal, and seemed horrible underexposed. I guess I’ll split the difference

Do you know how many how many hours of prints on the photons? I’d to have to replace the screens soon after.
Matt Farmer 2020-03-28 02:35:08
The photon s has a brand new screen I'd say maybe 20hours max on it. The normal photon has about 60 hours

Need to buy more resin to print minis, I’ve only used Anycubic White so far. My priorities are: 1. Detail 2. Value (Aussie dollar) 3. Durability
What are your thoughts?
Ondrej Slezacek 2020-03-27 18:29:37
I love the Elegoo ABS resins. So far great detail and easy to dial in and, in my opinion, slightly less smell.
Bruno Shepard 2020-03-27 18:29:59
There is a South American brand in the market, that is cheap and pretty good
Brad Thomson 2020-03-27 18:37:46
monocure
Calvin Vong 2020-03-27 18:38:16
I am using monocure atm because its hard to find other brand in AU. I am loving the quality but it is slightly more expensive.
Sam Spencer 2020-03-27 18:38:22
Brad Thomson I’ve got their clear flex and clear rapid. The clear rapid hasn’t impressed me so far and their dispatch is crazy slow
Matthew Phillips 2020-03-27 18:38:25
Where in aus are you?
Danny Gonzalez 2020-03-27 18:40:01
Gotta Recommend Siraya Fast, it’s so good, rarely fails, strong and not brittle. Only thing is that strength comes with difficulty taking supports off.
Sam Spencer 2020-03-27 18:40:14
Matthew Phillips newcastle
Brad Thomson 2020-03-27 18:40:27
for the photon use the rapid, i use a mix of flex and green, ordered twice, 1 arrived just today, always been only about 3days from ordering to del, im in melb aswell
Calvin Vong 2020-03-27 18:40:45
I mostly print prototype mechanical parts, and dimension accuracy wise I find that the grey is better
Sam Spencer 2020-03-27 18:41:05
Calvin Vong I’ve always ordered express and it hasn’t dispatched for a couple of days
Jason James Grubb 2020-03-27 18:41:23
https://aurarum.com.au/....../abs-like-3d-printer....../ Melbourne based, I've been using this with zero issues seems to match the Anycubic for details and quality. I've used the same settings for the appropriate color, this is just one color that have others
Sam Spencer 2020-03-27 18:45:05
Jason James Grubb hmm looks interesting. Any experience with their water pressure washable resin? I have tried one yet
Calvin Vong 2020-03-27 18:46:29
Sam Spencer I am also based in Melb, I have only used the standard auspost far, takes about one week to arrive for me.
Matthew Phillips 2020-03-27 18:48:36
Sam Spencer I have bought eSun resin from cubic tech in Sydney and was happy with the results.
Joshua DeBoe 2020-03-27 19:01:11
Difficulty taking supports off? Not with a dremel!
Ryley Dempsey-Spearing 2020-03-27 19:07:44
I second the monocure it comes within 2-4 Days in victoria and i am using for dnd minis has been really good so far
Scott Kernaghan 2020-03-27 19:10:45
I’ve been using these guys lately. I have a bottle of their water resin which I hw ent tried yet, but I have been pretty happy with the rest for the most part.
Pete Maverick Mitchell 2020-03-27 19:13:21
Monocure
Vincent Balmont 2020-03-27 19:23:09
I just bought 5 litres of monocure. Seems best bang for buck here, hot tip, leave it in your cart for an hour and u might get a reminder email with a 15% discount

Monocure. I used ac eco and the weight difference is noticeable. Feels alot more solid
Jason Chadwell 2020-03-27 20:19:24
Are you buying directly from Monocure or another retailer. Who's cart should I leave it in to get the discount, lol
Vincent Balmont 2020-03-27 20:31:14
Jason Chadwell monocure direct. U add to cart, it makes u register, then dont process it. I left it about an hour while looking for other stuff and I got an email saying I left something in my cart and 15%off
Jason Chadwell 2020-03-27 20:32:18
Great, thanks for the tip!
Alexander Bayerdorffer 2020-03-27 20:38:33
I do anycubic grey mixed with flex or tough resins
Jason James Grubb 2020-03-27 20:40:44
I havent no.
Erik Morris 2020-03-27 21:03:28
Danny Gonzalez I second this. The Siraya Fast ABS like gray rocks! It’s my go to. It’s not impervious to small parts breaking, but it’s far less brittle than others. I’m planning to add some tenacious into the mix at some point for ultimate resilience in small miniature parts.
Ricardo Sebastian Ibacache Guerr 2020-03-27 22:05:27
Bruno Shepard name? I'm from south America and never heard of that
Nicolas Tsagarides 2020-03-27 22:10:15

monocure is aussie based in NSW

monocure..3 days from australia to south africa
Jaco Norchie Nortje 2020-03-27 23:02:52
Sam Spencer speak to Charlie..he will sort u out no doubt
Bruno Shepard 2020-03-28 01:58:09
Ricardo Sebastian Ibacache Guerra it's called Melting 3d
Jarin Udom 2020-03-28 03:16:47
I'd say just get whatever color you like and then mix in about 20-25% Siraya Blu
Sam Farmer 2020-03-28 05:49:08
Monocure rapid is total rubbish.. worst resin on the market
Sean Heaney 2020-03-28 08:23:31
Using monocure as well, very happy with the product and service
Joel Reid 2020-03-28 11:57:58
Monocure is local Australian. Consideirng shipping costs right now in the covid19 crisis, they might be your best bet.
Sam Spencer 2020-03-28 11:58:56
Greg Baker hmm, for $145/L I’m going to have to pass
Brook Swartz 2020-03-28 18:50:27
I love siraya fast. ABS like, so not so brittle, and a wee bit flexible. And very reasonably priced
Ivan Antharon Antalec 2020-03-28 20:47:40
In australia difinitely go for monocure. white is weird and it has bad adhesion. Clear worked great.
