What is the best slicer at the moment? Which slicer can give me the same quality of slicing as this picture?

現在最好的切片是什麼? 哪個切片可以給我和這張照片一樣的切片質量?

That's not sliced. That's a rendered image from an STL

Bruno L'Archeveque
2020-04-02 07:05:43

I'm taking about the support! I cannot do that with Chitubox!

Danny Roux
2020-04-02 07:08:12

yes you can, with the right support settings and without using the auto-support.I suggest this playlist, its a good tutorial and how to place the support for the best results and with good settings:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist......

Christopher Carfi
2020-04-02 07:08:26

I’m pretty sure those supports were generated in chitubox But they look like they are manual supports, not auto supports. Meaning whoever prepped the model manually placed each support.

Bruno L'Archeveque
2020-04-02 07:08:45

Thx

Hugh Jeriolas
2020-04-02 07:08:46

You can definitely do that in chitubox. Those are chitubox supports. Just adjust the diameters in the support setting if you want them to look like that.

Yessik Ziiq
2020-04-02 07:10:37

I did those supports for the pre supported Titan Forge Models this month. They were done manually in Chitubox.

Todd Rigertas
2020-04-02 07:11:11

That is not a printed model - that is a render

Todd Rigertas
2020-04-02 07:12:24

Thank you for doing this. This saves dozens of hours for every single patreon supporter, which has to be thousands of total hours.

Yasu Tano
2020-04-02 07:12:48

yup those look very much like Chitu supports.

Christopher Carfi
2020-04-02 07:13:39

Todd Rigertas I agree. Manual support placement is just very tedious to me.

Yessik Ziiq
2020-04-02 07:13:47

Todd Rigertas No problem, I'm a weirdo who actually enjoys doing it. the more complicated the better.

Bruno L'Archeveque
2020-04-02 07:15:13

Yes, think very much! ? It help people like me who just start to learn about support in Chitu!

Yessik Ziiq
2020-04-02 07:17:09

Bruno L'Archeveque I actually have a set of tutorials and one follow along on my channel that teaches how I do supports, you can also check out 3d printing pros videos on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmV8aGPeS70mDD4U-U2s9UQ

Patrick Smith
2020-04-02 07:17:10

My chitubox supports look nothing like that.. These are fat up to the 45 bend.. then get pretty skinny.. mine do not do that. Mine are fat to the 45 then make a cone to a point where it meets the model.
Not doubting you but I think I would prefer these kind to the ones I have.

Yessik Ziiq
2020-04-02 07:19:57

I think since I did these supports, it's probably all right for me to recommend my channel, 3d printing pro and I have slightly different processes. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmV8aGPeS70mDD4U-U2s9UQ

Patrick Smith
2020-04-02 07:20:36

I just watched his videos on supports.. I will try his method next time.

David McGyver
2020-04-02 07:28:38

You can do some manual stuff with ChiTu like that, a mix of settings and manually placing supports. Given the bases I'd suspect this was done in ChiTu. I don't think I could make Prusa do anything like this without a lot of tinkering.

Rob Robertson
2020-04-02 07:43:37

Yessik Ziiq I love the idea of presupported models so i can just print! But i too enjoy doing the supports myself so have thus far not printed anything presupported lol Its just so soothing and calming placing supports :)

Will check out your videos for some more tips

Yessik Ziiq
2020-04-02 07:45:08

Rob Robertson Agreed, except for when I did this. This was about 4 hours of hell and eye bleeding.

Rob Robertson
2020-04-02 07:47:03

Yessik Ziiq OMG! that's amazing! well done! i've spent i think 2 hours tops on a single model, 4 hours is a mammoth effort! Maybe if I sub to Titan Forge this month, i'll use your presupported ones! I don't want your effort going to waste!

Ryan Guenther
2020-04-02 18:03:04

Yessik Ziiq Can I ask, what is the setting to create such long skinny extensions to the model like this?

Yessik Ziiq
2020-04-02 18:08:37

Ryan Guenther ptcha, self promotion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tECIg12koSk

I personally recommend watching the 4 Chitubox support tricks episode, which total about 10 minutes and also if you have time, the support along video.

If you're a part of the patreon, which is only 10$ even for the supported models, they come with the .chitubox project file. You can then just click on each support to get all my settings.

Anyone else waiting for lychee guys to chime in?
And yeah, i think lychee can do this too
Not sure on that tho, i use prusa's

So quick maintenance question.. if your repeatedly making the same parts with the same resin how often should you strain and clean out your vat

Personal preference honestly. Definitely after any print failures or partial failures.

Is this a good deal? I know the area is small, what is the average size prints can you make with this build area? It is $149 after the discount code. My oldest has a filament printer but he wants his own photon like dads. He will be mpstly be making game pieces for the board games he is developing with friends and mini trophies for robotics competitions. Thanks!

The build plate is small but unduly so. It's a good little printer and perfect for a first resin printer.

J.M. Ken

Good price too? I cant remember what hubby paid for his bigger photon. Thank you!

Clark Paints
2020-04-02 07:01:34

If you print models with parts you can print something this big down to a tick hair.

It’s a great entry and beats the hell out of other companies alternatives. Or just wait and get him a full photon.

James Bricknell

It's a little over $100 less than the original photon. I like it. I wrote a review of it in fact

Calibrate in which sense? Leveling was real easy because it locks down with four bolts instead of the ball joint. Figuring out the right settings for each type of resin seems like it would be the same as on other printers.

Heather Arangua
2020-04-02 09:45:57

I ordered from their website today and used code : happy-new-year and got $10 bucks off too ? woohoo!

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-04-02 15:13:58

Jonathan Basseri agree completely. But having ball joint background it was tricky at first leveling. It was like: "No way it's this simple" ?

John Chrapkowski

Heather Arangua I have one. They’re nice

2020-04-02 21:14:48

Panagiotis Kountouriotis glad you said that I wish they where ball joints I had to use my blade to slowly cut at it till it fit. My wife just stood there watching me struggle. No clue why it did not fit perfect. I was thinking I did something wrong but you had same issue. Maybe resin shrink?

Israel Martinez
2020-04-02 21:17:34

Tiago Lopes That's the master plan but still hand painting is a pain compared to air brush and I left my airbrush in NYC.

Israel Martinez

Ran into a small issue here. Trying to print this small part.

The hole in the center post is filling with resin and making the post solid.

The part prints fine like this with the small end on the bed.

Peter Everett
2020-04-02 05:22:25

Would a different angle work making the whole effectively larger

Chris Sawtelle
2020-04-02 05:22:49

It might but then we get into supports!

Chris Sawtelle
2020-04-02 05:23:04

Don't know why I can't upload a picture.

Jeremy James Rutherford
2020-04-02 05:56:57

I can see the funnel like object. It could be related to your exposure settings. Overexposing will bleed and harden areas around what you intend to. There is a resin test you can run to figure out the best setting for every resin. I forget where to find it off the top of my head.

Chris Sawtelle
2020-04-02 06:00:07

It shows now. How odd.

Chris Sawtelle
2020-04-02 06:03:42

I'm trying the print another way to see if it helps.
If not I'll start reducing the exposure and see how it goes.

Pete Kastner
2020-04-02 06:06:10

Make sure it can drain from the pipe. So air can get in

Yusuf M. Saatci
2020-04-02 06:06:16

Best solution for a venturi is to reduce exposure and poke the hole back yourself lol...

Chris Sawtelle
2020-04-02 06:06:54

That was my thought. With one end on the bed it seems like it might act like putting your finger on the end of a straw.

Toby Kirkby
2020-04-02 07:53:18

Drill it out, it's just mushrooming on the plate by the sounds of it

Chris Sawtelle
2020-04-02 08:22:19

That's what I thought at first but it is solid all the way through. Drilled a couple to see.

Jonathan Basseri
2020-04-02 08:31:42

Is it solid before the post-cure?

Chris Sawtelle
2020-04-02 08:53:47

Yes, solid right out of the printer.

John Driggers
2020-04-02 09:15:58

What's the diameter of the hole?

Jonathan Basseri
2020-04-02 09:37:19

Chris Sawtelle What's the inner diameter, and which Photon are you using?

Chris Sawtelle
2020-04-02 10:01:37

I used a 0.5mm bit to drill out and I think the original hole is no bigger.
Hole might just be too small to drain ok while printing.

John Driggers
2020-04-02 10:03:58

Chris Sawtelle I'd try tuning your exposure. You shouldn't have problems at 0.5mm.

Chris Sawtelle
2020-04-02 10:05:10

I did a second run and this time put the parts up on supports so the post and hole were not in contact with the bed. The hole at the ends was there but still solid through most of the post.

John Driggers
2020-04-02 10:09:46

Chris Sawtelle What's your exposure?

Chris Sawtelle
2020-04-02 10:10:39

John Driggers
2020-04-02 10:11:30

Chris Sawtelle I'd try dropping it to 7.5 or 7 and seeing if that helps.

Chris Sawtelle
2020-04-02 10:12:01

I'll give it a try tomorrow. I was thinking to try and see.

Dan Andersson
2020-04-02 12:38:55

Put the printer in a warmer place to make the resin more running. Could help. Using a non transparent resin could also help. Then of course exposure time to minimum.

If the hole is 0.5mm then it will probably always be filled with resin due to surface tension/capillary effect.

Mark Rothman
2020-04-02 20:00:12

Oh wow.. 0.5mm hole... That's going to be a serious challenge for any of the printers today.. Even the multi-jet half million $$$ printers would be challenged by that..

JP Legris
2020-04-02 04:21:03

just mix it well as long as there is no uv that went through and cured some resin your fine. I didn't pirnt for 1 month with resin still in the vat and i just mixed it with new on and everything was fine

John Seraiocco
2020-04-02 04:21:15

why bother to use a scrapper :)

John Chrapkowski

Exactly what i have done just to be sure , in the same time you mixt it

Alexander Lew
2020-04-02 09:56:16

John Seraiocco yep. If you feel something at the bottom then drain & filter to make sure you get the failed pieces out

Ted Brockwood
2020-04-02 10:56:50

I'd drain it into a bottle, shake it up, and put it back in.

Mark Wardle
2020-04-02 18:43:06

resin will be fine. just use the plastic spatula if you don't have a rubber one to stir up the resin. if it helps i have had resin in my vat for over a year in the photon only time the vat is empty is if i need to change the fep. also had resin in my moai vat for over a one and a half years. works fine. though i have covered my photon panels so no light can get in. :)

Probably cause they ran out of brown boxes ? i work at a storage facility. We ship stuff in what ever box happens to fit. And if brown boxes costs us say 2 dollars a pop. And the another company offers us red boxes for 1 dollar a pop. We use the red boxes for a while ?

I was using siraya blu for the first time on my photon last night. Halfway through the print i paused it to see if it had failed - it had. So i cancelled the print and flicked off the power.

Today neither the uv light or z axis is working, i can hear and feel that the z stepper is receiving power but its not moving. Any simple solutions before i tear it to pieces?
Ps. I have checked the ribbon cable from touchscreen to the motherboard.
