Honestly I'm just using it with default settings and they've come out great for me

It's weird as I couldnt get anything out of anycubic black, but everything else works fine. 9 hours into a print using eryone clear, on 60, 8, 1 sec and 3 bottom layers and all looks good.

Ha, LOL, how many people told you so, welcome to the world of misinformation :)

Stefan Giudici

Do you have a ventilator to use them on yourself? This is like printing a key without a car otherwise

Jarrod Richards
2020-03-22 05:10:07

The problem is that hospitals can’t take items from unapproved outside sources because they are not sterile, and they do not know where they have been or where they have come from.

Robert Silvers
2020-03-22 05:12:15

Of course hospitals won’t use them. Who is to say their machines even use this part. It's probably for one brand of ventilator in Italy.

Ashley Cobb
2020-03-22 05:12:27

Don’t most of our resins contain BPA?

Geoffrey Robert Johnston
2020-03-22 05:17:06

Pretty sure I’d risk the BPA exposure if I needed a ventilator.

John Aldred
2020-03-22 05:18:53

Pretty sure the hospital's liability insurance policy wouldn't. You living and suffering long term health issues as a result of them using it is more expensive than letting you die because they don't have the part. :)

Geoffrey Robert Johnston
2020-03-22 05:21:00

John Aldred I work in a hospital. They won’t touch some weird 3D printed part with a 10 foot pole unless this gets real ugly. If it does the balance between the Hippocratic oath physicians take and what you’re describing will be interesting to watch. I’m sure solutions other than Jo Schmo and his printer would present themselves.

2020-03-22 05:54:51

Geoffrey Robert Johnston I don't work in a hospital but I recognize well enough that the parts they get are highly regulated and the system isn't conducive to 'makers' walking in with cardboard boxes full of printed parts. I agree, it's going to have to be an awful situation where their only possible options for saving lives is using these sort of homebrew pieces. And even then, I expect they'll only consider the most well documented and highly spec'd of those available.

Louis Siciliano
2020-03-22 06:07:27

No chance i would use one of these made out of resin.
Would definetly print on my fdm though. Already have done a respirator.

Thomassen Ølf
2020-03-22 07:36:35

One of the reasons companies can justify costs for this sort of product is because of the research and the rigorous testing of it to make sure it complies with a number of safety standards, you can't do that from home!

Although it's pretty shit that we can't all lend a hand as much as we would love to in this situation, it's heartening to see people actually want to make a difference.

Dan Shaffer
2020-03-22 08:06:28

This originated from multiple posts about prototyping pieces/ adapters for ventilators. We have about 5000 in the uk apparently. That number will soon be overwhelmed by the number of patients that need them. The material specs have not yet been release d that will be needed for hospital use. As soon as they are they will be publicised widely. Meanwhile try to think and find out what parts they are running short of close to you and post on this group https://www.facebook.com/groups/885372275225315/?ref=share

2020-03-22 08:47:32

this is fun! so many negative people...never happy, all knowing.. dont read the post jus look at pictures...lol.. i hope you never need one... and my son in law is a doctor and said if i want to use it and there are no others yeah i can... resin would be least of my problems...he added that most cases could get by with a Cpap...

Juan Perez

Louis Siciliano
2020-03-22 10:01:09

Oh. How so? Resin continues to gas off after printing unless sealed properly. Fdm materials dont. Neither are perfect.

John Swapp
2020-03-22 10:07:44

Thomassen Ølf but $11,000 seriously? Thats just ridiculous. They could be made a out of pure platinum and still not cost that much to make

Thomassen Ølf
2020-03-22 10:11:46

Its absolutely ridiculous but until other companies go through the same processes to have a functioning and legal product there is no competition, it's fucking disgraceful really.

John Swapp
2020-03-22 10:33:58

While i think some patenting is good it seriously slows down the progress of mankind. Like for example the technology for most 3d printing processes have been around since the 80s and is just now only beginning to really take off because the patents started to expire.

Right now We would probably be 100% a green world running off clean energy and unbelievable technologies and have colonies on other planets. ?

Thomassen Ølf
2020-03-22 10:36:58

Totally agree man, it is highlighted how slow progress is at times like this, I love open source culture and collaboration but you'll always need regulation, hope you stay safe with all this going on dude.

Christopher Hayes
2020-03-22 22:45:57

John Swapp and it's even worse in the medical field, because it's a captive market. Oh, you need this epi pen or you die? $2,500. Oh, you need this ventilator part or you die? $11,000. You need these pills or you die? $60,000 over the next 5 years. They can't have competition because medical discoveries are patented for 7 years, so they are literally the only supplier.

I deliver to one of the busiest hospitals In Dayton Ohio, on my route. I can assure you Medline is sending out a SHIT TON of supplies and ppe to Dr's Offices etc. I spend almost 2 hours inside delivering everyday. Then of the 80 stops I usually have le ft 30 are Dr's offices up and down main street, they are ALL getting gloves, masks, and shit paper. Only one I am concerned about is the motel 6 guy....has less than 10 tenants a week in that shit hole but just ordered 20 cases of 96 rolls of toilet paper each. I assume so he can sell them for $1 per roll like people are doing around here. Team player right there.

Zachary Christy-Aronson
2020-03-23 18:48:17

While I’m not going to go to far down the rabbit hole. I will again ask for information on toxicities, temperatures resins are stable at, and possible chemicals to clean these with, or seal these with to make them even slightly safer. Toxicity is a ver y important as we don’t want to further perturb the airway, but with the alternative being is no supplemental oxygen being delivered to the patient... Also, this may be less of a concern because will able to place in line filters down the tube from the split if these are still available (no projected shortage as the filter is a common use item).

While I don’t know any medical personally that needs to use these currently, we are still unsure of ultimate need, supply chain disruption, rolling shortages, etc. and there is still scant information on ramp up at this time. Therefore we are trying to think outside the box and research before we need this kind of item. An example, if we can split the 250 vents in my STATE, we start to close in on projected peak need of 780 for ventilators at 20% penetrance of the virus into the population. Many options are on the table and some creative solutions already been disseminated within the community. Example below this is actual medical salvage PPE deployed in a US hot area due to supply shortage, which may continue to be used as we in medical have quickly learned the difference between N95 and P100 filter. Also, we are also seeing use of P100 (magenta filter) construction respirators when we can find them thanks to panic buying, but again worry about supply chain.

I'm so tired of these "don't do this" arguments. Go print masks. Put in a filter medium. Maybe a few coffee filters, maybe some fabric. Or both. Understand that they will not work 100%, maybe not even 50%. So what? If you take three measures that poten tially reduce your exposure by 20% each, you might have doubled your chances to not get infected. None of us want to risk getting this little critter, nor spreading it. Most of us under 50 will fully recover, even if we get it. The goal is to keep the strain on the medical system as low as possible, so that those of the riskiest groups can receive the medical care they need. Meanwhile, I'm keeping three printers busy churning out 50 of the budmen masks each day so I can bring a big box to medical personnel if needed. I have enough filament to produce about 500, and more on order. Go do the same.

I assumed so, it’s just gotten to the point where I’m wondering how the new posters haven’t already seen these exact same posts.

Have you asked any medical personnel if they will use them? I did, and was told "Not a chance in hell".

George Weaver

John Driggers They will when they run out and have nothing but a scarf to wear.

John Driggers A close friend of mine cofounded a regional chain of immediate care clinics - something like 20 of them in three states. He now oversees training and procedures for 200+ doctors, and 600+ PAs, RNs, etc, and "would use them in a heartbeat." The budmen shield masks guard against splashes and droplets.

Chris Gough nah, they’d rather dish abuse and label one a fear-monger for advising use of a respirator for 3DP.

As far as timing - I'm printing now, so that when the need arises, there's no delay.

Hi guys, I come to you once again asking for help.

Printing some floor tiles that are meant to go on top of Openlock bases, so its important they be perfectly square.

I've uploaded a picture of the model in Chitu, and then two of the non-square square that came out.

A third photo is one that came off my Ender 5 and is perfectly square.

Also put my print settings in.

Any ideas?

Resin, in my experience, isn’t super great for that sort of precision.

Have you try to print it flat directly on the plate ?

Tom Inglis

No, it would be pointlessly slow to do one at a time that way

Jean Michel Gautreau
2020-03-22 03:14:48

you have to add supports. because the first print bottom exposure time is higger so the size would be tiny
