What do you do to take your 3d print to the next level? You design and fabricate the fictional boxes shown in the film. These are actually a second draft and will need further adjustments. Cut and assembled corrugated blank, cut & applied the printed graphics to the box blank. The part I like the least is done, cutting, scoring & shaping these plastic display windows is no fun ? these would normally be vac formed but I don’t have access one of those machines. Archer print is a mix of FDM & resin prints.

Hello everyone! Firstly, I 100% tried to use the search function. Second, I didn’t get the cube loaded to the memory stick, I got these strange things. Third, I scraped two plates off that were just flat, no extra greebles, I’m assuming there were supposed to be eight. That being said, am I having a leveling issue and need to retry, or is there something else? The two mess ups were only on one side. Also, there is a bit of a haze on my FEP. Super clean before hand, followed the Anycubic cleaning guide, and it seems off now and not clear.

John Bkly
2020-03-17 10:37:50

Yeah, these were on my memory stick too. Just got my Photon just over a week ago. Had similar issue where prints were sticking to FEP rather than the bed unless I releveled the bed prior to each use. I picked up the Sprectrum mobile app for my phone and tuned the FEP to around 330Hz and did a good print run yesterday without any issues after just leveling it once.

Vladimir Smith
2020-03-17 10:38:44

John Bkly As in tightening the FEP? I have no issues releveling every time lol

Jarin Udom nothing wrong with it, if you know what you are doing.

Brian Jones Well I mean that applies to basically all of 3D printing hahah

Brian Jones
2020-03-17 10:16:06

Jarin Udom ok fair point. I was leaning to the mechanical side of the machine. Personally I love the damn thing, and I am ecstatic to have one.

John Driggers
2020-03-17 10:37:22

The Zero bed / arm mount SUCKS.. Why would you want more of that?!

Rigo Arevalo
2020-03-17 10:45:56

what did you not like about yours ?

John Driggers
2020-03-17 10:48:15

Rigo Arevalo The stamped aluminum "top" piece that attaches to the arm torques the bottom "bed" plate no matter how I attempt to tighten it, resulting in one side lower than the other.

Toby Kirkby
2020-03-17 11:04:26

The zero is terrible.

The ball and socket leveling is far, far better than most other options (just tighten the damn thing)

90% ofnthosenwho complain about their leveling slipping just don't tighten it enough but blame the mechanism rather than themselves

Rigo Arevalo
2020-03-17 11:08:56

hmm, I think I’m understanding you, but did you level the bed by listening the 4 screws *after* making sure the top know was tight? I don’t have any issues with it at all. I love it because I changed my ball to the ex leveler on my photon and it’s been so good after that

Rigo Arevalo
2020-03-17 11:09:26

You didn’t like yours either ?

John Driggers
2020-03-17 11:12:08

Rigo Arevalo yep. The minute you tighten the first one, the stamped metal “top” piece twists it. No matter how careful you are, it’s going to be off one side or the other..

John Driggers
2020-03-17 11:15:43

Craig Gardner
2020-03-17 11:55:56

John Driggers Mine is the same way but I have been printing with no problems so far.

John Driggers
2020-03-17 12:26:17

Craig Gardner Same - I can get it to within about 0.35mm side to side. It's just frustrating on what's otherwise a really nice, inexpensive printer. I'm working from home for the foreseeable. so I'll have some quality time to see if I can figure out how to correct it or compensate for it.

Ernest Sandridge Ill
2020-03-17 12:45:33

I'm not sure, and I am new and the zero is my first printer. But I seemed to have leveled mine fine, no issues there. But I guess if I had other printers too maybe I would understand, I guess.

James Bricknell
2020-03-17 14:01:17

I have the Saturn, the Zero, the Mars, and the photon.

Both the leveling systems work perfectly.

John Driggers
2020-03-17 14:14:45

James Bricknell amazing - how did you level the Zero?

James Bricknell
2020-03-17 14:23:57

John Driggers loosen the screws, put paper on the lcd, Set z=0, push down the bed, and tighten screws.

Done.

John Driggers
2020-03-17 14:25:18

James Bricknell nice - mine twists to the side when you attempt to tighten the screws.

James Bricknell
2020-03-17 14:30:37

John Driggers hmm that's weird. Even if you tighten them evenly?

John Driggers
2020-03-17 14:32:11

James Bricknell yeah. When you get to the point of actually tightening one, it torques the plate. I’ve got it pretty level now but it’s been a right pain in the arse.

James Bricknell
2020-03-17 14:45:38

John Driggers sounds a damn pain in the ass

Ian Henry
2020-03-17 15:27:40

James Bricknell what’s the price point on the Saturn?

James Bricknell
2020-03-17 22:20:05

Ian Henry we don't know yet. I'll let you all know as soon as I can though

Rigo Arevalo
2020-03-18 00:24:09

Oh mine is flat, I don’t have any issues with that. Maybe that newer bed has a slight manufacturing issue? Is the bed bolted to that upper part ?

John Driggers
2020-03-18 00:26:21

Rigo Arevalo looks like a different bed at least.

Rigo Arevalo
2020-03-18 00:37:12

I really like that one, I’m sure that’s where the problem is tho, have you contacted them regarding this maybe that part just needs replacing. Do you have some compound squares or other measuring tools to see if that thing is “square” ok all axis ?

John Driggers
2020-03-18 00:41:20

Rigo Arevalo yeah, I’ve a surface table and associated measuring tools, going to have a play with it later this evening.

I’ve dropped a note to Anycubic support , not heard anything back.

Last night I was averaging 0.8mm side to side, referencing the bed to the lcd. Front to back was not as bad at 0.5mm.

罗西晟
2020-03-18 06:09:39

John Driggers Do you tighten 1 and then move to the next? Then that is your problem...
In a "system" like that, you need to give each a turn before you completely tighten to prevent torque movement.

Basically like your fep replacement, you give each screw a turn in a X pattern... until their all tight.

John Driggers
2020-03-18 06:10:23

Xi-Sheng Luo Yep - try left to right, criss / cross, everything.

罗西晟
2020-03-18 06:11:25

With half/quarter turns?

-edit:
If it moves when you give it like quarter turns, It usually is because then it is "settling" into it's neutral position. (you know, like when you tighten a screw in a hole that has a recess for the screw.)

Printed out some more minis for a order. Impressed with the OG photon. Pretty much no issues other than slicers like prusaslicer and chitubox liking to skip island while knowing they are there. Thank god for that validator.

Everything done on the OG photon with elegoo grey at 0.02 layer heights 8 seconds 6 base layers at 60 seconds.

Keith O'Donnell
2020-03-17 09:54:19

I mean, if anyone could, there’d be a whole lot less recommending Chitubox to begin with.

What issue are you having with it?

Davy Struyf
2020-03-17 09:57:01

There is no best. Prusaslicer tends to be better at general support creation but has issues with very tiny islands. Chitubox I used for actual slicing. Use the validator to see what PS missed and fiddle around with support adding until I am island free . Neither chitubox nor prusaslicer will cover all islands. But the one thing that prusaslicer had over chitubox for sure is a optimal orientation algorithm to minimize unsupported island/create the least amount of supports needed

Harley DeBeaudrap
2020-03-17 10:04:21

Davy Struyf so prusa for supports, then into validator for island checking and then into chitubox for final slicing

what printer you use ? Photon or Photon S if S will Appear file in you Drive

Edward Hill
2020-03-17 10:22:51

If you're using a Photon, not a Photon S, then you need to slice into Photon format. Look on the right hand side of Chitubox, you should see a button named "Settings". That'll bring up a dialog where you will see what printers you have available to u se on the left hand side; if it just says default, or if it says Photon S, then use the "New printer" button (paper with a + on it) and add a regular photon profile. Select that, input settings, and re-slice.

Also, double check to make sure your USB drive is formated in FAT32. I had that issue just today where I used it for something else and forgot to reformat back.

And if you are using the USB drive that came with the Photon, as it seems that you are since it has the stock printer folders listed, I'd recommend getting rid of that and using another one. The thumb drives that come with the printer are notoriously bad.

Prusa slicer for supporting!

John Henry
2020-03-17 18:42:34

Harley DeBeaudrap that's too much work honestly. no one should have to go through 3 programs to get a decent print.
someone needs to combine the best of the 3.

fusion 360 is adding its own slicer not sure if they will have a DLP support, BUT you can design your own custom support structures. so hopefully they add DLP if they dont support it already. the slicer is new so i dont know a lot about it yet.

misses a crap ton of island and refuses to put them down. hell I have had the dots on the model where it KNOWS about the island but still doesn't do anything. had to either edit the STL and add tiny pillars myself or fight chitubox.

Richárd Papp
2020-03-17 19:09:01

Davy Struyf yeah a bit of manual editing is needed, but it can be tuned pretty well. i only fucked up 1 print so far, and that was user error. Way better than placing them all manually, and also more reliable than chitubox.

Do you have any recommendation software wise?

Lychee slicer

Davy Struyf
2020-03-17 19:31:53

Richárd Papp none really. None are good enough. For example this model. You see those grey dots. Islands. Prusa slicer knows they are island. Refuses to place them. Even chitubox was being a pain to get it working.

It knooooows

Richárd Papp
2020-03-17 19:36:48

Davy Struyf try to readjust them a bit manually. i have these happenings too and i can make them work, and sometimes orientation of the model is the key, autoorientation gives a good clue but sometimes it doesn't care about if it places the support on the face or the back of the head.

Davy Struyf
2020-03-17 19:42:38

Richárd Papp i did. No matter it didnt create a support. And personally I prefer just printing minis straight. But eh auto orientation still ends up with stuff like this.

If I didnt do a photon validator run before 90% of these minis I would of had flat spots and failures

Richárd Papp
2020-03-17 19:44:18

Davy Struyf Weird, i have no issues with it

Richárd Papp larger prints have way less issues but dnd minis man it misses alot. Run those STLs with the supports through validator you would be suprises how many mini islands happen and get auto fixed.

Richárd Papp
2020-03-17 19:50:14

Davy Struyf I print dnd sized minis also, without issue if i correct few supports manually and orienting it correctly. Idk bro, im glad it works for me even for the most tiny details. I will check this validator , but i had no issues at all so far.

Richárd Papp the lizard dude on the right. You see how he has one foot up. No supports were generated by prusa slicer. His toes would of just been printing touching nothing for like 10-20 layers. Prusa slicer knew that his foot was essentially floating but did nothing. The support markers were there. I even put some extra manually. Nothing. Chitu didnt want to work either so I had to go into 3D builder and put tiny rods underneath the toes. To make sure his foot printer properly.

2020-03-17 19:59:32

Davy Struyf weird! i gotta do it manually a few times, but i just need to click it and it applies the support. if it doesn't , than i need to readjust the angle of it, and than it works properly.

which version do you have ? maybe you have some older version or i really dont know! :D but im glad you found your workaround

Davy Struyf
2020-03-17 19:59:51

Actually the model on the left. You see his left knee and how its flat and looks like its peeled. Yeah. That was one model i printed a version that I didnt fix yet. Its a giant island but neither prusa slicer or chitu put down supports

Davy Struyf
2020-03-17 20:00:58

Richárd Papp latest prusaslicer. Tried the latest RC. Same issue. You got a screenshot of your supports settings. Also if you want i can send you the stl and you can try and make it work.

Colton Wilkins
2020-03-17 20:33:38

Yes you just make the supports then export and use photon slicer. Same with chitubox you shouldn’t be using chitubox to slice models. Only support

Richárd Papp
2020-03-17 21:17:27

Davy Struyf i gladly would try it! i don't set nothing special up for the supports.

i use black anycubic resin , config from the resin spreadsheet.

feel free to send me the file, i want to try it

Better in what?

Justin Miller

Most frustrating part of prusa slicer. I wish you could also drag the pillars around and leave the contact point in place. I think there some weird min distance issues they need to get sorted.

Prusaslicer +Chitubox = 100% success rate so far

I finally got my printer running again. I had to put a new motherboard in it. I also updated the firmware. Now my screen went from having blueish buttons to yellow buttons. Is this from the new motherboard?
